1st go at pickleball

After years of saving, dreaming and looking we are on our maiden voyage.
We left the ice of OKC and drove our DP to Mesa. We somewhat hesitantly joined TT's and immediately booked a two week stay.
My wife and I played our first doubles paddleball and love it. My wife has dabbled at sports off and on and it helped her pick it up quickly. I've played everything and could quickly get addicted. I did break a walmart paddle on an overhead and I think I have the ok from the boss to get a better paddle. Play starts at 8am. Softball at 10am. This is the life.

One of the best Valentines days of our 35 year marriage.

Good job you two. I have not tried it yet, but, would like to. I used to play Racquetball a lot some years ago. I am sure that I will like it.

I wish we would not have stayed in MN this winter. -16 F right now and wind chill in the -30's.

Good luck to you and safe travels.

You need to make sure you commit to playing. It's a great way to meet people and it's really fun. I do have to admit this fun is ruining my normal sleept patterns. It's a little bit like Christmas everyday and a little hard to sleep.....lol.

Motrin down and getting ready to go play softball.

Pickleball

Fastest growing sport in USA,!! Don’t need to be a jock to play at all. My wife is close to 80 and plays. So much fun. Good exercise, keeps your mind active, meet new people, and you can be as competitive as you want. Play with small grand children also. Perfect sport. Try it. GUARANTEE HYOU WILL BE HOOKED IN HALF HOUR !

Safe travels all

I played pickleball for an hour or so one day after having played racquetball for years. The racket is about the same size, feels familiar, the ball is about the same, I was playing about the same. Making some beautiful (!!) shots right there at the bottom of the net just an inch or two above the ground. I kept playing the net like it was the front wall of the racquetball court, low and fast. Ooops. The biggest part of the learning curve, for me, was remembering to hit the ball high enough that it actually clears the net - hitting really low gets a point for the other team.
It is a fun game, it would be easy to become addicted to it.

We play both indoors and outdoors near home and outdoors when traveling. I also started with racquetball and played both for a long time. R Ball has been shut down for a year so P Ball the only option. Some simi, similar, but also significant differences. Just handling racquett/ paddle and hand eye coordination helps.
If you have an opportunity it is worth attending a clinic or taking a lesson or two. Some players that have been to clinics can get you started with drills. Also online you can find drills.
Practicing some drils with another player will improve your game much faster than just playing. Best to mix it up... drills for 45-60 min then play to have some fun.
Some folks carry a net and chalk out a court in parking areas or less used streets where parks don't have courts.

Pickleball

Throughout our travels, we've found Pickleball courts in almost every town. If the campground does not have courts use google, Facebook, or the Places2Play app on your phone (the official name is USA Pickleball Places2Play) to find courts and learn when "open play" is scheduled.

There are also lots of free videos on You Tube that explain the rules of the game, offer drills, and lessons on everything from how to serve, return the serve, third shot drop, dinking, etc.

Shuttlecock, pickleball -----new name for an old game

Like HACK meaning a TIP/Idea
Pound symbol for 'hashtag'

Heard about pickleball but never knew what it was ..thought is was the ole bean bag game

Back in my youth I played a mean game of Racketball ---OH YEAH!
NAVY buddy and I played almost daily....at least once a week ---until we were exhausted
replaced many a racket due to breakage.
Tough exhilarating game Racketball
Now that I know what Pickleball is sounds like a good workout/game

Now with both ankles fused I am not very agile on my feet
guess I have to stick to Bean Bag Toss LOL

Pickle ball is great. But it’s not as low impact as some might think. Plenty of us get injured believe it or not.
