A Puzzling Question ????

OK - So who likes to do puzzles?

We have picked up puzzles on the road and have brought them back home to do. We got a 1K pcs, White Mountain "American Lighthouses" Postcard. Item 132PC.

While in Andersonville, GA we stopped at the concession and picked up this nice 1K pcs. Civil War Postcard they call it at White Mountain. Item 107PC.

Both of these puzzles were Modge Podged and framed. The lighthouse puzzle was put in a custom frame (whew!) too expensive for us even with a 50% discount. Trouble is you can not get a puzzle frame unless you specifically order one from an on-line vendor.

The last puzzle that we did is 1.5K Ceaco, Jane Wooster Scott called "Stars & Stripes" Item # 3401-8. We are looking at options to pursue to frame this one since it's out first 1500 piece puzzle that we have done. Remarkable about this puzzle is that there are basically only 2 physical shapes and they are oriented vertical or horizontal. Size 32" x 24".

We still have a little work to do on this one since some of the surfaces of the pieces are a little unglued. I use a drop of Elmer's to fix those pieces and it works well. This one took us a little while to do and all throughout putting this thing together, given that there are 1500 pcs, you wonder, "Are they all going to be there!?" Short answer, yes. We had to buy a cardboard backing at a Crafts store just to build it since it was bigger than the aluminum folding camping table that we use.

I believe that we have done just about everyone of the Wooster Scott puzzles and we also like Linda Nelson Stocks.

We had a puzzle and book swap at the 10th Anniversary Rally in Myrtle Beach this past fall and the result of that event was that there are not any takers on the puzzle swap and only a few books were exchanged. Our cousin came to visit and she loves puzzles so we gave her about 10 or so and she's got a long road to hoe before she gets those done. We also left a number of puzzles at the Ocean Lakes recreation office.

I'm going to give it another shot at the 2011 National Rally in Bethpage this fall to see if anyone wants to swap books and puzzles.

I'd like to do this one at some point. It's called B-17 Bomber. Item # 365PZ from White Mountain Puzzles.

All made in the USA!

White Mountain Puzzles
Caeco Puzzles

Finally .. A question for the experts:

Has anyone used a small paint roller 3"-4" to apply Modge Podge istead of those small foam type brushes?

I think if I wished to frame it I would start with one of those flexible silicon cutting/baking sheets and very very carefully slide it under the puzzle

Then I'd take a length of CONTACT brand adheasive shelf liner, Somewhat longer than the puzzle is wide, and peel the backing off, Fold the ends under and stick to a work surface it won't damage.

Now move the cutting sheet over the contact paper and slowly slide it out from under the puzzle. Pressing down gently to adhear the sheet to the backside of the puzzle.

Now trim, then frame.

I have been doing fridge magnets for years. I have some dated from the 1992 Durham Fair in CT and 1997 Springfield Outdoor and Camping Show, MA. The collection got so big that we had to move into a larger french door refrigerator.

Our grandson, Aidan, is always getting into them and I have to keep moving them up out of reach. Not so easy to do ... he's getting BIG!

Colleen and I just finished this 24x30 1000 piece puzzle in record time .... It's called Sailing Ships and Seafaring by White Mountain Puzzles. We really liked the theme and the puzzle is very interesting and informative.

We really like the White Mountain brand of puzzles. The pieces are clean cut and they lie perfectly flat. There is relatively little debris in the bag when you open the puzzle and the pieces do not have a tendency to separate the picture from the backing like Ceaco puzzles typically do.

Puzzles are a fun family project that is done together unless you can't sleep and you stay up to 3:00am plugging in pieces!

We found this puzzle in downtown Myrtle Beach at the Gay Dolphin right off the boardwalk. The Dolphin has got to be the biggest tourist trap in the downtown area! Whatever touristy place you have ever seen, double it!
