We are planning to go full-time in two years when I retire. DW was asking what I'm going to do will all my RC helicopters? The little ones won't be a problem but not sure about this guy.

Can you remove the rotor blades to shrink the footprint? I keep most of my planes in the back of the truck. The wingspans range from 18" to 76".
However, we have some room behind our "zero clearance" theater seating and I have a few things back there, too. You may have to get creative and look at all the nooks and crannies (and ceiling too).

They will fold to sit above the tail boom when stored. DW was not too supportive when I said I could hang them from the ceiling

Mine hung from the ceiling and walls in the basement in our house, but the DW wasn't willing to let me use the ceiling in our rig. However, she did let me use the back of the truck and some space in the 5'er.

I am thinking of getting into RC flying, since we are now full timing and I want a hobby. Any recommendations on aircraft, controller. Anything on what to buy or what not to buy?

Look at Horizon Hobby Bind n Fly aircraft and Spektrum Transmitters

they make some great stuff that is small to medium size and have SAFE flight and flight stabilization....great for learning!

Do you have any idea of what you want to fly, quads, helicopters, planes?

You might want to search for some R/C fields in the area and go talk to some folks there. They usually are plane people.

Finding a mentor / buddy will greatly help with the learning curve. I'm into helicopters and self taught.

A source to find a nearby flying field is on the AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics) website: https://www.modelaircraft.org/club-finder.

While it is possible to learn on your own, I absolutely recommend you to find a club nearby that has an instructor and spend some time with him/her. In addition, many clubs have club trainers that you can get some exposure and stick time on. For the most part, they will only have planes to learn on. If not, check Craigslist and/or the local club websites. I see trainers on line all the time. A fun and helpful option is to get a quality simulator and practice with it. This eliminates the emotional trauma of crashing your plane and the process of repairs and reconstruction.

As mentioned earlier, many of today's trainer models come with flight stabilization or the "SAFE" self correcting system. This is a nice option and can help save your aircraft.

RC is not my hobby, but always appreciated the folks who could get it up and not come home with a pile of parts at the end of the day.

We visited Buck Creek RV Park in Marion NC. It's off the Blue Ridge Parkway close to 80 and Tom's Creek Road. Dan has a nice grass RC runway there and a big open field around it. Not sure how or when they schedule flying. None took place while we were there.

Note - 80 off of the BRP is steep and twisty. Big rigs should come in from the Marion side of 80.

30 years in RC aircraft. No drones or helis. We have a Jayco 1006 pop up we used since the mid 80's Still have it. In August 2019 we purchased an Eagle HT 25.5 REOK. Im still working out the logistics of how big and how many planes I can take with me. Right now I keep a couple of UMX under the bed to start. Basement is full so that may be my under the bed hangar with is ok. I love my UMX PITTS. I can fly that in very small spaces.

As time goes by I may work out some more places to hold a few larger planes.

Your best chance of success is an Apprentice S and some one to teach you. Some of these planes say on the box "teach yourself to fly" but the truth is the success rate is very very low. With out help no plane will survive long enough to get you thru training your brain to work your fingers. It is called muscle memory and it takes time. But with help and paitence anyone can fly RC. Like already mentioned most any experienced pilots in most clubs will be willing to help you.
