I bypassed planes all together and dove head first into 3D helicopters. I could have bought a nice used Class C with the money I spent on that hobby.
All I have left is a Vario scale Bell 47D with a 6 foot rotor diameter

They're an absolute adrenaline blast right up to the point where they nose dive into the dirt. Then the average cost to repair is around $500 including a new set of CF rotor blades. I usually brought three ships to the field and on some days wrecked all three. I spent a lot of time in the basement rebuilding and a lot of time and money ordering replacement parts online.
My worst disaster was when I crashed a scale Chinook dual rotor heli. A lot of time and money went into that thing and it was a real monster to fly but it looked fantastic in the air. I almost cried when that went in.

Have any of you watched this?

I've wrecked more than my share.
Safe journeys & soft landings.

Learning Aileron control
I found something that might help me with my very, very, very, slooooooooooooooow learning curve with my two aileron airplanes
I downloaded some models for my FMS simulator, actual models for my micro P-51 and Sukhoi.
WOW, do they ever fly different than the Sukhoi model that came as a default model witn my FMS. I fly then exactly like I fly them in real life, into the ground
I think maybe, at least I hope so, they will help me get my dumb thumbs under control. Even though I have dialed in some DR with my new radio I still have trouble keeping the airplanes flying in a good circuit
I'll let you know how I make out when I get a chance to fly then during my Astronomy Club's 5 day winter star party coming up Feb 11th. I should have a little time to practice on the FMS before then.
PS my micro J-3 Cub is on it's way, should be here Friday
Ron

I ordered it months ago from Redrockethobbies, I believe they still have some.
My local HS, HobbyTown has them also. In fact they had put one aside for me but I got it for $8.00 less and free shipping from Redrockethobbies.

One Six Right
I'm sure some of you old timers in RC have seen this
Hulu - One Six Right - Watch the full feature film now.
A friend of mine, the one I mentioned in an earlier post who makes his own J-3 Cubs, loaned me his CD of the documentary and I really enjoyed it.
I watched it again last weekend on Hulu and I enjoyed it just as much the second time around, even watching it on the computer

I finally got to maiden my little Piper today, what a challenge that was with a little bit of a breeze. Don't forget I'm still somewhat of a newbie at this stuff
My first ROG was a bit of a surprise and almost crashed before I got it a couple of feet off the ground
I had checked the CG and it seemed ok but my first try the plane seemed a little tail heavy and with a WOT it wanted to climb straight up. After getting my nerves calmed a little I was able to level the plane and reduce the throttle for a more controllable flight.
The only CG adjustment I have is with moving the battery as far forward as possible but that didn't make a lot of difference to it's climbing at WOT. As long as I'm at about 1/3 throttle it flies nice and level and was a pleasure to fly. It has plenty of power to loop and power through any little puffs of wind.
I did several landings which weren't too bad, a little bit of a bounce but I think that is mainly because I didn't land the plane close enough to me to judge the wheel contact with the ground. I did one dead stick just to see if I was going to be able to get it back to me when the battery dies
All in all I think I'm going to really enjoy the little J-3 Cub. Can't wait to get to my flying site, hope the weather cooperates
Ron

Now if you made that cockpit just a little bit wider and longer I think you could get in there and fly it
Nice looking project, I admire you guys for your building ability, just make sure you paint it red
I got a lot of compliments on my little J-3 Cub at my Astronomy Club's winter star party. The little Piper looks great and scale like in flight.
I finally got the drastic climb at WOT under control, I only use about half throttle when giving it a hand toss. Loops are easy at level flight and full throttle and loops continuous. I'm having a blast at flying it
Ron
