Ron & Dee I haven't heard from you guy's since May. Have you done any astronomy since then? I haven't as my hamstring in my lower back prevents me from even trying to lift my telescope to set it up. :(

2015 Perseid meteor shower peaking Aug 11-13

Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, even better Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
Best in the midnight to dawn hours, away from lights as much as possible, and minimal sky obstructions;

Moon phase (near "new") is very favorable;

Only equipment required is a chair you can lay back in or a blanket/pillow for the ground.

Lynn,

Sorry about your back.

We go to my Club's viewing site every New Moon, but viewing hasn't been that great because of clouds. Looks like a repeat of last year with partially cloudy skies at almost every New Moon

Just got back from vacation to North Carolina and North Georgia. Here are a couple of pictures I was able to get, dodging the clouds and Moon.

This next June I've made reservations at Orcas Island near Washington St. and of course I'm bringing my telescope! I'm towing my 32' travel trailer and I'm looking for things to do either on the way there or on the way back from Frisco, Tx. Any ideas from anybody?

Haven't done any RV star gazing as we haven't made our first RV trip yet.
At one time I was a member of the Black hills astro society in Rapid city, SD. When I drove my semi from Rapid city to Sheridan, Wy every night. I always took along my small scope and would stop at an off ramp and do a bit of gazing. Let tell you Wyoming has some very dark skies.

During the solar max of the 90's I could see the northern lights while driving.

My set up is a Borg 100MM, tele-optic grII mount. also have a 6" Intes Mak-Newt. Used to have a Losmandy GM-11 but that thing was a brute and took a long time to set up so sold it.

When you do start, be sure to take your telescope with you. Mine goes on every trip, I wouldn't leave home without it

Most definitely, Along with my Camera gear, Binos, spotting scope & some stunt kites. I may actually get some time to camp out as well.

Long time to hear from anyone!! Guess I've been busy with work and family and forgot about posting here in the section plus I had to cancel my vacation so I didn't get to go on summer vacation a second time in a row. My family is also moving (to a temp apartment for a month hopefully) to a new town and new house which is in the process of being built right now. I'm looking into purchasing a new CCD camera in Sept. after I move in and start doing astrophotography. I'm looking at either a ZWO ASI178MM as a kit (w/ filter wheel and is monochrome) or a ZWO ASI178MC which is colored and cooled. Ron and Dee what do you use to take your pics with?? You have any details on the pics that you have taken??

Long-Time astronomer, new to this forum.

Dear Folks:

I've been stargazing since 2002, starting with a Meade LX200GPS 8". In 2006, I got a 16" Dobsonian, and have done a ton of observing with it, qualifying for my Messier and Herschel 400 observing awards.

When I started out in astronomy, my wife and I had a Coleman Pop-Up, that we dearly loved and had great times in it. I took it to multiple star parties and it was a good place to crash for the day after a night of observing. In 2011, we traded it in for an 18" travel trailer, and it was more comfortable than the pop-up (a lot to be said for having a bathroom on board). Again, I took it to multiple star parties.

Last May 13th, in anticipation of my retirement at the end of this year, we traded in the travel trailer for a Fleetwood Bounder Classic, 34B. I've taken it to one star party so far. It is hard to fit my 16" Dob into it, and I have to travel with the two largest pieces of the scope inside the coach itself (the rest of the astro gear can travel in the basement storage compartments). I am planning on attending the Okie-Tex Star Party at the end of September with the Bounder Classic and the Dob and maybe I'll see some of you there.

I've attached a picture of me and my Dob taken at the 2012 Texas Star Party. I've also attached a picture of me and my Bounder Classic, taken at the 2016 Rocky Mountain Star Stare. Hopefully, one day, I'll have a picture of both together.

Clear skies all.

I haven't been to the TSP since 1986! Marriage then kids and jobs (different jobs over the years) have prevented me from attending. Maybe someday I'll get to go back. Nice dob B.T.W., I still own my 10" F/4.5 Coulter dob which needs to be refurbished someday. I'm happy I got this forum backup. Do you do any astrophotography w/ your dob?

No, my Dob is totally armstrong powered. Meaning I push it to targets. It's a great scope, though.

Maybe I'll see you under the dark skies some day. Maybe at TSP? I was there this last year, and we had four fabulous nights.
