Hi Fffrank- glad you followed the Malibu build. I should probably finish that windshield and be done with it. But hey, shiny objects distract me I guess.

Paint is getting there-
This paint scheme has led me to drinking. Well, maybe the drinking is why it is taking me so long? Actually this has been a really slow go since I have a lot of other things I do in the summer and this paint job is complicated. Anyway, I'm almost done with it, just need to finish the front swirls and touch up a couple spots and then I'll shoot some 2k clear over the whole thing. I told myself I wouldn't put the chassis under it until the paint was done. Yesterday I couldn't stand it anymore and had to see how it looks. I like what I see. Pics below.
Cheers-
Bob

Time for an update
When I finished painting the exterior last fall, the weather turned crummy on me for shooting the clear coat on. Well, the weather still isn't good enough for that so in the meantime I have been building mainly interior parts. Lots of cabinet work and the 2 captain seats. All takes time and a lot of it. Once I can get the exterior clear coat on, then I can start mounting all this interior stuff I've been making. Also built some of the roof hw like the 2 AC covers and the rear ladder. Couple pics below of some of the stuff. If you want to see more of the process of building these interior parts, it starts on this page of the build log on the rc site-

Crazy good work Bob. I can't imagine the patience it must take for a build like this. Beautiful work.

Thanks Boogie and brandss-
The only part I vacuum formed so far is the front windshield. I do plan to vacuum form the roof bubble over the shower and the 2 vent covers when I get to them. All other parts have been built up as standalone pieces so far. Not good for reproducing parts, but that's why it is a 1 off I guess.

Bob, have you thought to use a 3d printer for some of the parts or does that take away from the hand made part of building a project like this. I can't get over the level of detail you have with everything.

Well....I think 3D printing has opened up a whole new way of building models. But I don't have a 3D printer (yet, it's on my list of things to do). I think there is nothing I can't build by hand that a 3D printer can do. The bonus of a 3D printer would be the ability to make several of the same parts if needed. But I just work with what I have at hand. Plus if I build something like the captains chairs by hand there are only 2 of them like that versus 100's/1000's that anyone could download and print.

I was finally able to finish the exterior paint/clear coat and start on adding all those parts I built to the interior. Got to the point it was a moment of truth...installing the large slide-out and seeing if it would actually work. Turned out better than I hoped-

Incredible project. You have some fantastic artistic, mechanical and fabricating skills.

That slide out detail is off the chain Bob.
I was expecting a servo to pop it out.
How did you get it to move at scale speed?

Thanks Bob and Boogie- I may by slow at this build...but I try to at least be accurate.
For the slide outs, I found some really nice linear RC servos here-
https://www.actuonix.com/l12-r
They come in 3 different lengths and you can choose from 3 different gear ratios. I went with the 210:1 ratio which is nice and slow...and powerful.
