Do you "Hobby" while on the road?

My hobby is model rockets, high powered ones.
The agreement is, I can pick a regional or national launch to attend and the better half plans all the other places we go to.
It works out pretty well. I get 3-4 days of launching rockets and she gets 5-6 weeks of traveling and seeing what she wants to see.
It works out OK since I usually enjoy all the places she wants to see.

How do the rest of you "Hobby" on the road?

Getting my flight sim setup in the RV was an interesting challenge. Step one being to convert or adapt your dinette into a workstation kinda thing. Step two, put together a small form factor PC (cuz laptop GPU's don't even cut it) .. the CoolerMaster NR200 case is fantastic. Step three, build up a low-drag gaming chair. MonsterTech makes joystick mounts that work with Ikea office chairs, replace the wheels with "glides" boom done. (Don't forget your cupholder; every fighter pilot needs a place to put his IPA). VKB makes a fine, small-footprint, single axis rudder pedal if you can live without toe brakes (it ain't a "taxi sim" but hey, it's easy enough to set up "virtual" toe brakes, Russian-style, if you must). For your monitor, you want VR and it ain't even close; even if you're not playing a "VR" game, you can gin up a BIG virtual screen. Since you're working by feel in VR, you want a decent HOTAS; WinWing is hard to beat for the price. A decent gaming mouse will also give ya some extra buttons you don't have to hunt and peck. Get a portable LCD monitor for cheap on Amazon for the day-to-day stuff. All that will fit into a cabinet when you're ready to hit the road.

If you can get wireless controls why not use your main TV as a monitor? Then you could sit in your recliner and "Fly". Another option would be long cables I suppose.

^Point being, VR can give ya amazing audiovisual capabilities in a compact package that's getting more and more compact by the minute. This is what's hot right now... it's not just about new ways to watch a movie or play a game, we are talking about completely new forms of entertainment. That you (or the grandkid) can enjoy in an RV without having to rewire the thing. And without bothering Grandma, cuz you know how she gets when "Masked Singer" is on

Flight sims is a different kettle of fish, we are talking about a highly detailed 3D interactive cockpit operating in a 3D world ... eg, warbirds over normandy, fighter jets over iraq. Carrier ops off Guam. You know, flying a 737 across the country, any country in the world. Buzzing the grand canyon or Serengeti in a Pitts ... you name it. Pretty amazing. So realistic it'll make ya airsick. And we are talking photorealistic. A lot of the fake military jet video you see on TV comes from the military flight sim I like to fly. Remember the Ghost of Kyiv hoax? That video came from in-game, without enhancement

VR puts you in the movie. Must be experienced to be believed. And any more, it all fits in the cabinet below your dinette.

I prefer RR! Real Reality.
We always take our mountain bikes with us and ride everything from rail trails to gravel roads to back roads to singletrack. Wife has a digital bike and I have an acoustic one.
As a kid I flew model rockets and that was fun, particularly putting them together.

Sure. One of my main hobbies is looking at forests. I have studied them for 50 years. Trying to figure out the forest types, management history and fire history is very interesting. I like looking at wild flowers and range vegetation.

I have worked on a lot of mine sites over the years and like looking at mines and old mining towns.

The other thing I am always on the look out for is archaeology. The Soutwest has great sites all over the place.

My husband is a former professional golfer. Harvests Hosts with a golf membership has enticed my husband to travel with me more than he would otherwise. The ability to play a new course in exchange for a “free” overnight in a beautiful setting has allowed me to be less of a golf widow than I already am - and I get to travel and see new places, which is what I love to do. As long as he gets in a round of golf - I get to plan the rest of what we do.

A win-win for both of us.😉

My metal working hobby is not something easily transported but my Jeeping hobby is which is why I chose a TJ for a toad.

Ham radio here, always carry antennas and radios to set up and play with, keeps me off the streets but usually in trouble. LOL.

Kind of what we do with my rockets. I get 3-4 days at a large launch and she gets to plan the other 5-6 weeks of where we go and what we see. The last launch was supposed to be 4 days of 2 - 3 mile high launches for me, but the weather intervened. The rest of the trip still worked out great.

ppine if you haven't made it to West Virginia. You need to stop in Beckley. They have a very good coal mining exhibit. You would like. If you make it to North Carolina on the west side look up the Cradle of Forestry. Another very interesting place.

I used to do a lot of coal mine reclamation. Peabody Coal was one of the main companies I worked with and they are out of business. I have not been east of the Rocky Mtns. for many decades.

I enjoy wood carving. I can sit next to my rig with the dogs and carve away.
Of course, having a good supply of bandaids while learning is a must. Lol
