Looking for a place to pan for gold

We are working on our bucket list. Looking for a place to pan for gold. Location is not important. Any ideas? This is mostly for fun, but a little found gold would be nice too.

There is still gold in the creeks of north Georgia starting around Dahlonega and reaching all the way to Cherokee county just north of Roswell. You can stop on the side of the road but these are likely mostly panned out. Ask at local stores to get access to various creeks.

Nearly all the fast running streams in this area have small quantities of gold.

If you start in Dahlonega they have gold mining operations where you can practice and this area has a rich history of gold mining. There is a museum on the square where you can get started.

Good luck - I hope you strike it rich.

Ck out GPAA. Lots of claims and most have gold to some degree. Many have RV spots on or near.

I toured a gold mine in Colorado once...look around Idaho Springs and Georgetown just off I-70. Most of the tours included free panning for gold if I recall. It was pretty cool.

In the eastern US there is / was a (state?) park where you could pan for gold in eastern Alabama, as I recall somewhere near Talladega though it has been 25+ years since I was there.

p.s. If you want to dig your own diamonds you can do that at a state park in SE Arkansas

There is a trace amount of gold in most streams in the north Georgia area near and around Dahlonega. This is where the government mint was located many years ago. Some are set up for tourist panning (see link below). Be sure to use one of the commercial locations or ask the owner before using, the locals do not take kindly to folks trespassing. Check it out and be sure to visit the museum and other attractions in the area. If nothing else, there is a lot of beautiful scenery. Oh and stop at the Smith House for the best southern meal ever, served family style. It is near the local college so you will likely be eating with one of the professors who knows the area.

Disclaimer: I have no connection with anyone or anything there, I just like the area and visit when i can.

panning

Also, lots of 'online' 'gold dirt' sellers. They are mostly concentrates from a sluice or dry wash. I am sure they are 'salted' but you get a bag or can of 'dirt' for a price, it has a quantity of gold, and you pan it out yourself. Great practice. Also great for setting up your own small sluice or 'panning practice' operation.
I have bought a bog or two from Felix in Alaska. Many more including from California, Nevada, Arizona and Georgia.
