Plastic models?

Anyone else build while roading?

I prefer 1/72 and 1/48 scale aircraft kits.

I’m in the final countdown before we go full time and I would love to get back into building kits. My brother is a toy collector and dealer and has a garage stacked to the ceiling with kits. (Military planes, vehicles and boats and all kinds of cars). Over the years I’ve purchased about a dozen to build “someday”.

In particular I have a gigantic Renault F1 kit (1/12?) from Tamiya I hope to someday have the skills to build properly.

Sticker Shock!!

Was recently in a discount store that had 2-3 shelves of models. There were 20-30 "stick" models which I later found were current kits (not antiques). The smaller kits which we paid .10 to .20 cents for in the early '50s are now $40. !! The 24" wingspan (larger models) are $60. !!

Have I missed something?
But then I'm the guy that made .36 cents an hour (plus tips) as a soda jerk in the same time frame.

Frankly I’m amazed you were able to find a hobby shop. Around here all the old school hobby shops (RC, trains, models, etc) are closing. That’s how my brother has amassed more kits than he has any hope of building, when they auction off the contents of those local shops.

It was a discount store - not a hobby shop.

Nowadays, the traditional "hobby" stores seem to be frequented primarily by crystal meth junkies and filled with the type of things they're into- radio-controlled cars, trucks, helicopters, speed boats, drones, and so on.

Built my share of muscle cars back in the day......

FTng would be tough
WHERE would you store finished models.
Boxed non-assembled could be stowed.....finish models would be tough to stow w/o damage and once assembled where would you display?

We FT'd for 7 yrs and frankly.....didn't have that much down time to put towards a hobby...traveling/adventuring/experiencing small town America was our hobby

There is a Hobby Lobby 40 miles away...she goes there once in awhile.
Guess I'll have to go and check IF they even have models
Got the down time now to do some.
