Question What kind of fish are you catching in your neck of the woods?

Where are you? What's biting? Gear used? Details please!

I'm no ice fisherman, but I saw a pamphlet from Coachmen on an ice fishing RV (pull-behind) that had 3 or 4 portholes in the floor for fishing from! Apparently they drive these things out on frozen lakes, make a hot bowl of chili, open up a porthole, and start fishing from inside their cozy RV!

Black Drum. Unfortunately it was too big. 34", can only be 28" or less to keep. Sure was fun to land on 10 lb test light tackle! Didn't have a net, had to send the DW running den the pier to borrow one! Caught at the Port Lavaca pier.

I am in Utah, 15 miles South of Salt Lake City. I Fly Fish the rivers east of us, the Provo and Weber mostly. both are Blue Ribbon waters, all natural wild Trout, they have not been planted in a lot of years. some Rainbow are taken, but mostly Large Brown Trout. we also have a lot of great fishing lakes, they have about every thing, Trout, Salmon, Bass, Walleye, Cats, Tiger Musky just to name a few. year round fishing.

Kekker--I am super jealous of you there in Utah. I have fly fished the Weber and Provo several times over the past 5 years during summer trips to Park City with the family. Since I'm not a Utah native and am fairly new to fly fishing, and I'm only able to devote a day to fishing without alienating myself from my family, I have used one of the guides from Trout Bum2 named Chris Passage. This guy is an amazing fisherman and guide, and he puts me on fish like nobody's business. I lose count of the number of trout that we catch after just a couple of hours of fishing, and by the end of the day my arms are tired! That part of the country is just so beautiful that it never leaves my mind. (oh yea, we ski there too... )

Nice, Kekker! We love fishing Utah, but have never fished the areas you talked about in your post. Natural browns are some of the sweetest fish...will definitely have to check out the action this summer! How cold is it up there this time of year? We're in Vegas and are cold weather wussies ;-)

Fly fishing Utah is on my "To Do" bucket list... Unfortuantley most of my flyfishing for trout has been mostly in New England area , which is totally frozen over now... visited Bishop, CA few years back (not far from Vegas), Sierra Mountain trout fishing looked outstanding, again go back, RV for a month or so, spend some time fly fishing; on my bucket list...catch a golden trout.....My fond passion; vintage fly fishing with fiberglasss fly rods (Fenwicks, Phillipson & Orvis) and Deer hair Bass Bugs for largemouth and smallmouth... ...just love that heart stopping top water action... if you get a chance to trout fish the Androscoggin River in NH, VT and Maine... you won't be disappointed... showing my age... that are the waters that Curt Gowdy and Ted Williams fished a lot... still a great place and unspoiled trout fishery
