05 Spartan MM CAT C7 Belt(s) - A Short Story

So some background....

Picked up this 05 Providence on a Spartan MM chassis in January. Since I do most of my own maintenance, I gathered tons of tips and got a comprehensive list together then I dove in!

Oil/Filter, trans oil & filters, generator service, air dryer cartridge, fuel filters, air filter, and on and on and on.... and more to come post summer.....

Anyway, closing in on an upcoming trip, I called my local Cat Service Center and arranged for them to do a couple of items for me as I was running out of time.

Here is where it gets a little embarrassing.....when I get the quote, I notice they only have one belt listed for replacement, the serpentine. I called the service guy and asked him to add the WP belt. He tells me that he doesn't believe there is one, but he would double check....and triple check. To be frank, I never even attempted to look at the belt(s) other than what you may see draped over the pulleys from various angles.

Armed with all of the info found on this forum, surely he is mistaken, as ALL C7s have two belts!! When he called back, he confirmed only one belt, the serpentine, I became a bit snooty, but authorized the proposed work. Then I start thinking to myself, what kind of service is being provided to me on this coach? I started questioning all that they said they were going to do.......that was on Friday.

Friday afternoon, I called the Cat Helpline. Surely they would be able to confirm the belt application. Nope...they couldn't find anything listed......hmmmm....this is getting to be a bit ridiculous.

Monday morning, I called Spartan. In short order, he provided me a single belt number, Gates 5080760.
Sweet!....crap....I owe the Cat service guy an apology!! Made that phone call and ate that entire crow!! Yuck!!!

So today, I looked for the Gates belt provided by Spartan. Ummm....can't find a Gates in that number, but do find a Dayco. That Dayco cross references to a Gates K080760HD. Eventually, when I get the coach back, I will confirm what Cat put in and as I am keeping the old as a spare, I'll use that as a true source number. If it differs, I'll post that info later.

So I am posting this, as a future reference for a fellow RVer, hunting for this info as I could not find much at all regarding a C7 with a single belt application. It does exist.

Well , I have learned something today , so being in self isolation I guess I can knock off for a nap .

The answer was of course in my file of Caterpillar photos , that I have referenced any number of time but clearly not paid attention to ALL the details .

Here's a C-7 photo , showing the water pump clearly with a serpentine belt pulley and not the V grove my 3126B has .

EDIT: Red arrow shows the ECM location; The red oval the IAP sensor, from when I used the photo before.
One of these days I'll figure out how to remove them .

I though the 2005 came on a freightliner chassis, Spartan makes a great chassis.
