2018 Spartan K3 Hydraulic Fluid Change

I need to change the hydraulic fluid in my 2018 Spartan K3 (Newmar Mountain Aire). The fluid type is AW46. I’ve seen posts for similar chassis (but not K3) in which the fluid was pumped out from the top. This reservoir looks much smaller and includes what looks like a drain plug at the bottom? Can/should I use that plug for draining the fluid or is another technique preferred?

Also, what’s the refill capacity? I have the single replacement filter that get installed inside the tank.

Be sure you get all of the old filter out.

Sometimes the paper gasket will fall off the old filter.

Same tank as we used on the Peterbilts for the PS.

Happy Glamping.

So is the plug at the bottom the correct way of draining the fluid, as opposed to pumping it out from the top?

And is the refill capacity limited to the gallon or so in the tank, or do I need more fluid based on draining the fluid at a lower drain point?

Thanks

I replaced the fluid and filter today. Drained fluid using the drain plug at the bottom of the tank and refilled with just under a gallon of hydraulic oil.

Have this tank on our LA, where you get the replacement filter and oil?

My Spartan manual says to only remove enough hyd oil to change the filter too. The only reason to completely change hyd oil is if it is contaminated.

2018 Spartan K3 Hydraulic Fluid Change

At the Spartan Academy we were told to change the fluid every year. See attached. The K3 does not have a separate spin on filter.

The K3 chassis has a shaft drive fan assembly so the hydraulic system doesn't drive the fan so the system doesn't need as much fluid in the tank as hydraulic drive engine fan assemblies.

I have a K2 chassis with the spin on hyd. filter. You have to drain the reservoir to change the filter so I installed a easy oil drain plug on the bottom drain plug. Same reservoir as the K3(1/2" pipe thread on easy oil's chart) This will make it a lot easier and less messy.

Which drain plug did you use, EZ-202?

Ray IN, What's the anticipated reason to not change the fluid completely? I flushed and replace all the fluids, but my system had been opened up in accident damage so that was required.
