ABS Light Causes

We bought our 1996 HR Imperial in late November and on our drive from western Washington (wet Tacoma area) to (dry) Southeastern Washington (Tri-Cities) the ABS warning light came on. A week or so later on the drive from it's storage space to our home the ABS light failed to appear. It stayed out until today on our return trip from Idaho, in sunshine, the dreaded ABS light reappeared. I'm looking for any ideas on most probable cause, diagnostic procedure and fix.

Thanks for your thoughts

We had a Newmar London Aire on a 95 Spartan chassis. We had the coach for 7 years and put 90K miles on it and on and off over the years the ABS light would come on. We had a Spartan service place look at it and I too spent a lot of time taking wheels off and checking wiring. The most common connection was getting the wheel area wet. Either by washing or rain seemed the common connection and yet some time it didn't come on for up to a year. 98% of the time it was off. Never had an problem and learned to live with it.

It is safe to drive the MH regardless of the light. The only thing that it means is you do not have the anti-lock feature when the light is on. My ABS light came on intermittently last year. After I drove through a rainstorm the light went out. Now the only time it is on is at startup.
If you have a pressure-washer, try cleaning the backing plate with it. Often the cause of the light is dirt on the sensor unit.
My mechanic told me to run our jeep through a car wash with an undercarriage sprayer when its ABS light stayed on, and it worked.
