KSDP 3910 IFS 1260 Ball joint questions
Hi,
I have an 05 KSDP with the Reyco Granning IFS 1260 and over the past few weeks my ball joints have started groaning and moaning. We spent a lot of time in winter weather and with the road crime, salt and debris, we're nearing replacement time.
I've contacted Spartan and they provided their modified part number but they're out of stock. Here's the part numbers they provided.
Upper ball joint 0922-DD1-801003 cost 409.00ea
Lower ball joints 0922-DD1-801020 cost 221.00ea
I assume there are aftermarket joints available. Does anyone know if the 1200 and 1260 share the same ball joints? If not, does anyone have the part numbers for the IFS 1260 ball joints?
Thank you

Wow, I tried to find some info about these ball joints and possibly an interchange number to a common brand. I ended up on Reyco Granning website and found out the 1260 is a discontinued model. They say parts are still available but may need special order. https://reycogranning.com is their website. It also appears only the suspension is Reyco/Granning to me, the axle itself and ball joints may actually be Dana, Freightliner or another manufacturer. If you can Identify the manufacturer of the axle and you may be able to get ball joints that way.
By the way, the description you gave is symptomatic of dry ball joints, if they have zerks grease the snot outta em, push out a good tablespoon or two of grease to flush as much dirt and crud out as you can. When you se clean grease give it another pump or two. If they're making noises they're already toast, but you might be able to nurse a few extra miles out of them with lots of grease.

Yes, they are dry, all the boots are smoked. There aren't any zerks on these ball joints. I've attempted to liberally grease the joints in various conditions i.e. bags dumped, wheels off the ground with jacks extended etc. They're still noisy. Tire wear is fine and the joints are still tight. I plan on selling the coach in the next 4-5 months so I'm going though everything to ensure its tip top before I list for sale.
I'm sure there are multiple aftermarket options for this front end, just need an accurate pn to cross reference. I have a hard time buying a part with a "manufacture" markup.

There's a thread here that details how to drill and install grease fittings on your ball joints...... See post # 86

From what I understand, there's no aftermarket or OEM other than Reyco that supplies the joints.

The upper number is the same Spartan sold me for my 1200.
My lower is a different number. 0922-DD1-801003
I did add grease zerks to my old ball joints and got an extra 8,000 miles before I had to replace.

The early 2000's Spartan chassis had a real problem with the ball joint boots just rotting away, they used inferior rubber. And the problem was you couldn't just replace the boots, you had to replace the entire assembly. About a $2500 fix. I went through this on my 2000 Dutch Star years ago. I found out that Spartan was aware of the problem, but figured by the time owners found out it would be out of warranty. I mean how many owners crawl under the front and check out the ball joints & boots? I heard of people installing zerks to keep the joint well greased, but in many cases there wasn't enough rubber left to do that. I was lucky in that I had an extended warranty at the time that covered it.

The Reyco-Granning IFS is an independent front suspension = no axle per se.
