Yes. Two speed. It does really howl at low speed, and drops off when I hit 2nd or 3rd gear. Still audible.

The clutch creates what I will reference as a limited slip in the drive system that makes the fan run all the time but not at full speed until the clutch locks because the temp switch has turned on and runs until the temp is lowered. Very easy to know when this happens because of the howl or jet engine sound coming from the rear. On at 201 degrees and off at 194 to 184 degrees. Not exactly sure how the sensors work but I would guess that the variable off is because Engine, Transmission, and Oil all have sensors and need to stay under certain temps

Yup--that is what I was thinking--a two-speed/multi-speed fan would be tied to engine ops temp, not direct engine RPMs. AFChap--your description suggests your fan is tied to RPMs as you accelerate--generally speaking, fans to a better job of cooling on steep climbs if you keep the engine RPMs higher, due to better coolant circulation and increased hydraulic pump speed--somewhat the same as a direct drive system would do. The mystery continues...

Reading this post reminds me of the Corvair. These had huge issues with the v-belt coming off. So much so that I sold the heck out of these tools that gauges belt tension.

Many expert mechanics thought they could solve the Corvair belt issues by doing all sorts of modifications. However in the end the only resolution was two fold.

1) Ensure Proper Belt Alignment
2) Using a tension gauge tool to verify proper belt tension.

Belt Alignment Tool: https://www.hogslat.com/hog-slat-las...-alignment-kit

V-Belt Tension Gauge 1 (100 to 320 lb): https://www.amazon.com/Gates-91132-B...78047065&psc=1

V-Belt Tension Gauge 2 (30 to 160 lb): https://www.amazon.com/Gates-91107-B...00MUTAGS&psc=1

I don't know the specification for your specific belt tension. You will need to find this yourself.

Hope this helps. Good luck!
