Spartan Chassis Air Bags

Hi every reader I have a 1998 American Dream with a Spartan Chassis, Looking for replacement Air Bag for Front and Rear. The original are made by Firestone and have a bag number which is 1T15M-6, but local Air Bag dealer telling me that number is only for the bag itself and not the top plate and bottom pedestal.

Anybody out there every replace there Air bags and have good numbers for this application on a 98 Spartan Chassis. Moe

Just had air bags replaced oh our 04 Essex with Spartan K2 chassis at Spartan. There are difference between chassis and years for air bags and you should contact the chassis company to get the correct air bags for your chassis.

Agree... Give Spartan a call and they will truly be more than happy to provide the part number. Afterward, check their parts website for better price than you can get over telephone from them. Www.rvchassisparts.com. If the air bags are not listed on their website, call them and they will list them at the discounted website price.

Also check www.truckspring.com

Thanks guy for your responds, I will take your advice and call Spartan for the information. We are planning a 5000 miles trip in the spring and do not trust the original Air Bags on this MH. Moe

I don't remember where I read the air bag inspection procudure, but it said if the bags are not cracked there is not need to replace them. It may have been one of the websites posted above. Mine look like new, except dirty. I never considered replacing them.
I think the top/bottom metal parts are reusable, but there is a post here somewhere describing the replacement procedure.

Cracked and leaking Air Bags

My rear Air Bags we’re both cracked, slightly ballooned, and leaking, causing me to “tail drag” my ‘08 Tiffin Allegro Bus. The compressor could only maintain 120 lbs. Rear Air Pressure at Speed, and 95 at high idle. We are in Red Bay, AL, getting a bunch of stuff done (home of Tiffin Motorhomes). Bay Diesel charged $263.95 each for the two bags, and 2.75 hrs labor to install, then check and adjust air ride height. These bags were manufactured by Firestone, and supplied by Freightliner. Apparently Spartan no longer stocks bags for chassis over 10 years old. My Bus has 113K miles on it.

So, your first clue is Air Pressure, does it come up to 150 Front & Rear at idle? Next, crawl under with a flashlight and visually inspect. Cracking and ballooning is pretty obvious. If you pass those two tests, you’re probably Okay, but remember, if you blow a bag, you have to be towed on a flatbed, because with no Air Pressure, you have no Brakes or Suspension, and you are at the mercy of the Gods of Greed, as well as down time waiting for bags to be shipped. I suspect the price of the Tow alone would come close to Replacement Cost, but some people like to live on the edge...

At that point, I would lift the rig, put the jack stands under and put an end cap on the air bag air supply line and get off the road safely.

I need to power wash the underside, wait to dry and get underneath and do an inspection on the bags et al.

My Mountain Master Chassis is 15 years old. Spartan did have bags and ordered more after installing on my coach. This was at their factory service center in Charlotte, Mi.
Depends on which front end suspension you have. IFS 1200 has different bag number than IFS 1260. I believe. Not sure about different bag part numbers for the rear.
Be sure to have your VIN # handy when you call Spartan.
Best of luck and safe travels!

Cheers
