Bringing a moped
Hi all,
What's the easiest way to carry/bring along a moped with a Class C? Was hoping not to have to tow a trailer.
thanks,
Val

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I would think that either a front or rear mounted rack would be fine for carrying a moped. I'm not familiar with any particular brands or models but they can't weigh very much so i would think that you could mount a rack w/ramp which you could just push the moped up on to.
Best of luck.
Rick

Hello Val. You can purchase carriers that mount to your receiver, but you may want to consider that many CG's don't allow mopeds in their parks.

Really? Even if they're licensed and a sole source of local transportation?

Motorcycles and probably mopeds are generally allowed to come and go. Mopeds used to ride thru or around the camp ground are discouraged due to the poor behavior of the riders and liability to the park. Licensed or not has no bearing. This is private property, their rules. Call around to different CG's. I think you'll find most have restrictions on the 2 wheelers.

And by the way I bought our moped three years ago before checking! Have a really nice Yamaha Vino collecting dust in the garage. Low mileage scooter for sale.

Yep. That's been our experience. Used as local transportation, they're fine but not for recreation within the CG.

We've been across the country with the RV towing a 4Runner and a Harley and have had no problems with any CG allowing the Harley. Only one CG in the middle of CA has something posted on their site about no bikes, well none except for during a motorcycle rally that happens once a year in the area ...... go figure.

Consider buying a Cricket ESV www.ricksesv.com/ - a mini golf cart that collapses and fits inside an older model CRV, pickup, or any other small SUV or station wagon.
Good luck!

I think the OP is considering using the moped in place of a toad.

Just bought a cricket this week. They also sell a carrier with ramps for it that fits in a 2" receiver. Cricket weight about 300 lbs, carrier about 30 lbs.

Been all over the country with a scooter (licensed and insured) Got one of those longer hitch from wallmart and welded a 5 foot piece of u channel 4 inch wide on it and was still able to tow mini van also. Never been told could not ride it unless the CG did not allow motorcycles. Only one place did not allow. That place had problems with bikers just coming in to drink and cause trouble. (it was at a lake) so they said no more bikes of any kind.
