Coachmen: 2002 Georgie Boy Landau - Slideout motor stuck

Can anyone help me with my slideout problem?

I have a lounge slideout similar to the one in the image, single arm, no level adjustment that I can see.

Recently the motor got slower and slower, until now, it moves the slideout slightly then stops, we can here the motor humming, but not moving the slideout.

When it is in the slideout appears to be down on the right hand front corner compared to the left, as I said, I can see no level adjustment.

When I use the manual handle to take it out and bring it back in, it seems to run very smoothly, although it is heavy, but I don't feel it drag on anything.

I have seen youtube videos about fitting rollers to the outside edge of the chassis for the slideout to run on, this already has them fitted.

Anyone have any ideas?

We have had our Poppit 2 1/2 years, our first motorhome, we love her, better than being at home.
She's needed and still needs a little TLC, we've replaced the toppers ourselves, paid to have the front suspension and brakes done, cost us a fortune, I have done the rear brakes and discs (rotors) if I had realised how easy it was I would have done the front.

We have tried a few RV specialists here in the UK, but from now on will be doing everything ourselves, nuff said!

Would appreciate the complete drawing of what you’ve posted if you have it.

Our LR slideout moves slow as well but have not yet diagnosed if the issue is a weak motor or binding of sorts. Bedroom slideout works great!

Access for the lounge motor “should” be by removing the “ceiling” panel of the spare tire bay. At least that’s what it looks like on ours, which is a 3402 Landau.
I haven’t tried to access it though, only looking in the crack between the bottom of the slide and the hinge rail for the basement door.

Since your slide seems to move a bit, and I’ve read a lot about others complaining of a shear pin issue makes me think yours may have an issue in that area. I’ve also read where someone else had the welds break on the bracket that the shear pin went thru.
The thought here is that a shear pin (or bolt) can be sheared, but the remnants of the pin and the shaft it’s in can still bind enough to cause some rotation.

And yes, I’ve got all the manuals with wiring diagrams as can be found on the Coachman website.
What I don’t have, or had seen previous, is what appears to be a partial graphic of the slideout mechanism that you provided in your initial response.

Don’t think there are any copyright issues to be concerned with - with Coachman non-exisitant, and they even provide free manual copies on their website - I’m thinking the free exchange of information would be welcomed (an interesting aspect of copyright ownership of written documents by a now defunct company).

Just too a look, definitely, no access from the locker underneath, the water and waste is next to it, so no access there either.

I’ll try to look at mine tomorrow - it just started raining here (am from Dallas but we’re presently spending a month in South Texas).

We have a 2004 Pursuit and have had to replace a shear pin underneath the slide more than once. If you hear the motor my guess it is a broken pin underneath.

If the sheer pin had gone, would I still be able to wind it in with the handle?

I still can't figure out how to get to the motor, its set so far back!

Finally got under coach and looked today - it definitely appears as though you have to take the top of the compartment under the slide-out motor out. Either that, or you might be able to access from under the coach by reaching up through the drive shaft tunnel.
But I’m betting removing the 6-8 screws from the top of the compartment is the route to go. You will have to work around some wiring for the basement light, and there are 2-3 screws along the sides and I think 3 across the back.

Our SLIDE-out drive assembly does look like your assembly, and I’m pretty certain it is RBW.

FWIW - if the shear pin is sheared, neither the power drive or the manual crank will crank the slide in or out.
Battery power is needed to release the brake on the motor drive for manual cranking - the brake is released at the slide switch.
If there isn’t any battery power, then from what I understand, the brake must be removed from the slide motor to manually crank the slide in or out.

But I am also in agreement with Tha_Rooster - (sometimes the simplest things are overlooked!) - how are your coach batteries? Good? Charged?

Another thing - look at your battery charger - if it’s the original (MagnaTek?), you need to look at replacing it with a Progressive Dynamics 4 stage micro controlled charger as opposed to the OEM linear charger. The linear charger will cook your batteries.
