Dometic thermostat replacement

I just purchased a Rockwood mini-lite that has an analog thermostat. I would like to replace it with a programmable one. I found one from Honeywell that I really like. Can I use any thermostat? Or do they need to be compatible like the dealer is telling me.

They want to charge me $400 for the "oem" and $125 labor

I belive you can the wiring gets a little tricky there are some older posts that give step buy step
