Extended Warranty

We just signed paperwork with a local dealer here to purchase a 2016 Flagstaff Classic Super Lite 832IKBS. We were able to negotiate a very reasonable price, about 30% off the sticker.

The dealer is really trying to push an Extended Warranty package. Are these really worth the money or is it just another way to get into my pocket?

Thanks,

Yes to getting into your pocket. Check the warranties on all the components and you'll find they are warranted for 1-3 years. What's the warranty on the unit itself? I'd wait until the warranty is about up and if you've had issues, then think about one.

Typically after I've told them no twice, they will know they are starting to blank me off.

I did some research and found out that Forrest River offers a second year of full warranty for a pretty reasonable price on a new TT. So I am going to go that way just to be safe. I also found that if I really want an extended I can get a 5 year plan for about half of what the Dealer was recommending with Wholesale Warranties.

So I am going to just push them off on this. Thanks for the response.

Just remember one thing about Extended Warranties, They are only as good as the company that issued them. So check very carefully, what is the reputation of this company, do you or the dealer have to call before even looking at it to get permission to do warranty work, or worse yet you have to wait until one of their people are in the area to look at it before work can even think about beginning.
Once the work is complete, what is the warranty on the work
Where can you go to get work done, only certain places or any where?
It may be cheaper for a reason, better yet why do you even need it, what about Good Sam's warranty.

OK I'm off my box now.

Put the money you would have spent on the warranty in the bank. These warranties are not worth the paper they are written on.

Get everything taken care of inthe first year and if possible after a good shake down take the unit to the factory for repairs and adjustments.

Just picked up a Mirada 35KB on Monday. Finance manager was incredulous that we refused all extended warranty. Drove it home and found many things wrong or broken. House batteries weak and would only run the furnace fan for 10 minutes before they were dead.(Brand new unit) THIS is the same service department that will take care of my $6000.00 extended warranty claims?!!! No thanks! Likely won't have decent service on basic warranty. Owned many RV's over the years and have never purchased extended warranty, mainly for this reason. They tell you they want you to have a good experience with your rig, that's why they are offering it to you. Truth is they make far higher margins on warranty than actual unit sales. My opinion of course. Yours may differ.
