Ford V10 power
I test drove a new Forest River Georgetown 351 yesterday, it was disappointing how little power it seemed to have. Hardly ever below 3500 rpm and shook us terribly at 65 mph.
Comments, PLEASE. my wife likes the looks inside, I notice a LOT of used ones with 6-8000 miles. Regardless of the price I don't want a lousy RV.
I have a Itasca 26P which I love, my wife says she wants something with bunks for the grandkids......

Your experience is not typical. I can only assume that the particular chassis had issues, even thought it was new (happens!).
Go drive another one. Doesn't even need to be a Georgetown. Any Ford powered Class A of roughly the same size would suffice for a comparison.

Agree, not typical. Drive another.

X3, we have a 34' 2006 on the F53 and what you experienced seems very odd. Our normal tach reading while cruising on reasonably level roads is about 2100. Absolutely no "shaking" even on a climb with the revs in the 3500 range.

I have an older F53 chassis wih the V10, a 2001 30 ft Coachman Mirada. Very smooth engine, good power, hangs around 2300 rpm cruising at 62 mph.

I think Ford rates the latest version of the V-10 at 362 HP which should be plenty to move a rig of that size down the road. I have the old 2V version and it was rated for 275 HP and it is a bit undersized for my 37' with a tag but once it gets up to speed, it propels my unit down the road just fine. It is the long hills where it really shows it's deficiency if you want to call it that.

thanks
I appreciate the feed back. I also think the rv had a 20 k chassis and perhaps a 22k would ride better.
Thanks again. Bob

On my 4th V-10. Love the engine. As stated above, try another MH.....

I pick up and deliver all sorts of RV for the RV place I work. I have found the V-10 to be fine. In stock mode is has as much power as the workhorse has. Just depends on the size of your rig. My personal rig is a 37.5 foot Forest River Georgetown XL. I pull a jeep with it. It does fine.

We down sized to a class c with v10 . We were so disappointed with its like of power.small hills in south Mississippi it would shift from over drive to 3rd. Or 5300rpm & losing speed. Our fix was banks power exhaust system. & 5star programmer that changed the shift points & now uses all 5 gears

Further more, I think that you do need some driving technics to properly use all the HP from that engine.
I have a 2010 MH, 38 footer and I was towing a dolly and a 3600 pounds toad without any problem, you just have to listen to your engine and keep the right revs.
