Forester on Sprinter Chassis. Good move?

I don’t know much about FR company or the forester model. The sprinter chassis I know is controversial for many. That part I believe my decision is right. Any input on brand and model would be appreciated. This is a brand new unit.

RG, Welcome to the IRV2 forum.

I’m an owner of a lightly used Coachman Prism 2200 (by Forest River), the best Info I got off the forum was the use of the Chassis disconnect (near the accelerator) which extended life of my camping experience until I was able to replace the Chassis Battery after I learned how Not to abuse it. And after much trouble shooting had a Stereo Shop correct the problem the Factory created with wiring on the Camera Switcher & Steering Wheel Buttons (both feed the Radio Unit) which were getting power from the upstream side of Battery instead of downstream of the Ignition Switch.

2nd, was that after I got it home in Calif. with 9,000 miles on it from Florida, where I picked it up, was to have the Front End Aligned. Mine was way out on Caster, as from the forum, every thing is good until they finish putting the Heavy Coach on it and ship it without a re-aligning the unit.

3rd, get your hands on some Wiring Diagrams for the Coach, they will be you friend when you need them.

4th, Install little Felt (stickies) between the Screen Door & Coach Door & At the Screen Door Latch (between the doors). Also shave some thin ones & cut them in half (half- moon shaped) and with a screw-Driver jamb them between the the Kick-Plate & Screen Door Frame (do both Inside & Outside where it is Metal to Metal). After I did mine it was so much nicer and less hectic driving. I thought I had Rolls Royce Motorhome.

don't get a coachmen. had a 24g

see if you have a dealer nearby that will service a sprinter. i didn't and when they say they will service it.. (oil changes etc..) ask what fee will be.

call the factory and ask to speak to someone about the molding in the bathroom or the poor radio reception.... congrats if you get to talk to a human... i never could.. if you con't get to talk to a human, buy something else.

i'm larger than most. shower was way too small.
leaving our bed and headed to bathroom, there were 2 step downs...
very cumbersome in the middle of the night.

check construction quality before buying... walls bulging? hinges? moldings falling off. storage bays? big enough for your stuff? can you and your bride both walk down hall? there was an antennae in glove box. i still don't know what it was for...dealer didn't know and wondered why it was in there... i checked other models and they all had that antennae. dealer thought it was funny... i did not go back there for 2nd or 3rd coach and that dealer's specialty was making friends of their customers... where are batteries? how easy will it be to service them...

pro-- easy to drive! better fuel mileage than most mh.

most of our trips were sort of local... going to a gas unit with lower mpg wasn't significant compared to getting something with more room... and it had poor trade in value... we bought the coachmen with a full 32% off... thought i'd done good on purchase price... in less than a year va lue was 50% and hard to sell at that price... we took a whipping.

Thank you all for the replies. We did have a chance to give it a pretty good look over. Spent a few hours in it before negotiating. Plan to do the same and more on pick up day. As for resale, from what I understand they all are worth half as soon as you drive out the driveway. Not much concerned about that. Plan is to use it as much as possible. We have a 22 ft class a that is 30 yrs old and are used to the small size. But the old gasser is hard on fuel and obviously doesn’t ride like the sprinter.

MY Forester is very enjoyable. Rides nice. At 32 ft lots of room. Theater sitting. Lots of 12v amenities. Nice size Refer that makes ice. Built in wi-fi that can control slides, lights etc. Tows my little toad fine. Gas mileage better than a Class A gasser. Sprinter was too small for me. Good Luck..
