FR3

Yes, I just saw it at an RV show. We were pretty interested. It has nice storage. The seating is comfortable and has better quality foam than some of the competitors. I liked the recliner sofa a lot. The shower has a really great expanding curtain where the top folds out to give you lots of room. I like the lower height bed (some shorties have them way off the floor). There seemed to be very good outdoor storage. The front seats were fairly comfortable with plenty of foot room for the passenger (something lacking in the current Winnebago short class As). The unit did not smell like chemicals. This was a huge plus because when ever I have seen an ACE they are heavily fume laden so I can only assume Forest River used higher quality materials that don't out gas as badly.

Things I didn't like included no bedside tables. Missing alot of little thing that were used to in our Winnebago like fans in the ceiling vents and towel bars in the bathroom. Also seemed to have less bathroom storage cabinets than some competitors. The over the head of the bed storage was smaller than most. Wardrobe sizes were very big. In fact they could have benefited from a extra shelf at the top or bottom because they were oddly tall. The dining table was mysteriously narrow. It was too far from your body when sitting in the dinette.

I liked that it rode a little higher off the ground than the ACE because we need it to get up an uphill driveway. I think it would make it and this small practicality gives it a big leg up with us.

The one we saw was $84,992 (show price). I thought it was too high of a price for the interior appointments. It feels very basic inside. It is 31'4" long so not as short as some were looking at (the shorter the better for us). I really like the Thor competitors, especially the 27.1 ACE with the king sized bed. I really like alot of the little extras you get in the Winnebago 26HE. I really like the front seats in the Georgetown which is made by Forest River also. The quality of seating in the FR3 was one of the higher points compared to the very spartan feel in the Thor competitors. We'd probably be very interested in this at around a $60K price, because it has some things we really liked, to undercut the Winnebago 26HE at $69K. The Thor ACE 27.1 with the king sized bed is also more attractively priced at $75K. No way would I pay 10K more for the FR3.

I noticed in the pics. above they have the mesh holders around the top. The one I saw didn't have that so it looked a little strange. I'm wondering if there were other things missing. The bathroom seemed so sparse. No toilet paper holder, just an under sink shelf, no towel bars, just a couple of cheap hooks that likely your towels would fall off while underway. Maybe it was a pre-production model.

Another weird thing is the sewer hook up area. It seemed to us that with the door folding down it would rest on the sewer hose while dumping. We like to keep the connection in view in case of leaking. I think the door covering the sewer hose compartment should swing to the side or up with a holder to keep it up so it was out of the way. I also don't like the fresh water and electrical cord being in the sewer compartment. One yucky incident and lots of things get contaminated. I'd rather sewer services be isolated from everything else.

I think we would consider this one more seriously if they managed to get a king size bed in. I wouldn't mind the missing bedside tables as much if there were a king size bed.

You bought the one fron Quebec! Lucky duck. That was the only one actually listed online for quite a while. Probably are more now. Hoping to see one in Elkhart this summer at the Forest River rally. I am hoping it stops snowing by then, lol.

That's the 1 but they do have another exactly the same at their other location.

Forest River FR3 Motorhomes vs Thor ACE RV

I'm with you guys, the ACE line of motorhomes are the better value. My wife and I spent weeks reading reviews and doing our own reviews of all the motorhomes, Class A & Class C we were interested in and the ACE fit our needs, budget, and tastes. I do wish they had the 27.1 when we purchased ours new. Not only is the king bed nice but this new floor plan is very open especially for a small class A RV, the flexibility of that dinette booth would be great too. Best of Class A & Class C RV Hybrid | 2013 ACE Class A Motorhomes

We really love our Thor ACE especially because with all the storage spaces, it is very well thought out. We looked at an FR3 motorhome at Motor Home Specialist in Texas and Forest River obviously just copied Thor's motorhome but we definitely thought it felt that Forest River's FR3's quality was not up to par, at least on the coach we reviewed. I'm sure we'll look at these motorhomes again next spring.
