Manual awning

2016 coachman clipper. I believe I over extended my awning. It only extends approx. half way. It does retract ok

Some awnings, if overextended, will roll up with the fabric rolling the wrong way. Kind of like the TP being over or under. However that's usually only on motorized units.
Did the spring break?

Thanks for you response, the spring is good strong as ever. Is there some way to release the spring and maybe rewind it

There is, but I suggest that you watch some of the U-Tube video's on replacing awning fabric so that you can see how to do it safely. The end needs to be pinned, the fitting removed from the upright and then held with vice grips or a special crank to unwind. If you lose control, very unpleasant things can happen.
