Messy Hydraulic Failure

Our new Dynamax Dynaquest XL just had a messy leveling jack hydraulic failure. I'm hoping that there's a known failure point so that we aren't troubleshooting everything under the sun. As we retracted the jacks, fluid started spraying upward from the top of the assembley. We were able to get the jacks up, and the fluid level ended up at about half a tank and the spraying stopped. Should I be looking for a loose fitting, or maybe a hose failure? I'm hoping that you can give me a place to start with a high likelihood of solving the problem. Thanks all!

if it's new, bring it to the dealer and "discuss" it with them in a very stern voice

That fluid is some slippery, messy as I had a similar issue when someone overfilled our hydraulic canister (you NEVER add fluid when slides and levelers are deployed ! only when all are retracted !)

The dealer is in Texas, the motorhome is in S. Dakota and is enroute to Washington State. The closest dealer to our home is in Portland, OR. DH has to be home on Thursday to fly out on Friday. I'm trying to convince him to drop it at a dealer along the way and then go back for it after his work trip.

Can you post a picture of where it was leaking? "Assembly" does not mean much to me. Was it the hydraulic manifold, an individual jack, the tank overflow, etc.

I do not have a Dynamax so I am not familiar with its hydraulic system.

Sorry, I was not the one to stick my head in there while it was spraying. I was told that a stream was spraying up from the top where all the fittings attach. Since I'm the little woman, my help was not invited. If it was, I would first check to see if the fittings were tight, and see if I could find any split hoses or a hole in the tank. I could probably tighten the fittings or replace a hose, but if it's more than that I would need to find a repair place.

My husband should be back with the motorhome tomorrow. I can get a photo then.

I was wondering if there are any notorious failures that I should look for.

That varies by the brand and type of slide mechanism your rig has. Mine is all HWH hydraulic and three slides need to be in and the large main one completely out. It is a flat floor unit and the rams are fully extended when in. Just the opposite of most. On fact the CC manual is wrong also.

I took a photo, but I'm not sure that it shows anything of value. I will try to post it, but it might be sideways.

Thank you, Mr_D. If it's that complicated I will wait to have a pro put the fluid in. I will try to sit down with the manuals just so I can ask informed questions.

Hmmm.... that might be upside down - or maybe not.

Anyway, apparently it was spraying up, not sideways or down if that's any help.

We now have the repair kit (three O-rings and two studs) in hand and Left Seat will work on it next week.

The pool under the engine turned out to be coolant. Left Seat found a fitting that was only finger tight, and once he tightened it, the leak stopped and hasn't reoccurred. Before we head out again, he will go through and check everything.
