New center console finished!
Well after many months of thinking about this project and multiple tests, I finally finished my center console for my Georgetown XL 350TS.
I felt like I was never able to read my GPS information and the missing dedicated monitor for the rear view camera was an issue for me as my bike rack failed last fall and my kids bikes where dragging on the road for many miles!
So I made it in real wood, I used cherry board and I dyed it to match my cabinets. 100% match.
I had purchased the original center console from forest river, switches even the HVAC control so I had everything in hand to build my console. The only thing I didn't have extra was the actual GPS unit!
I'm pretty pleased with the end result, I will most likely install it next weekend.
Clock, ScanGauge II, dual USB charger and rear view monitor where added to the original console.
Perhaps Georgetown designer will incorporate a tilted console in the following years..

Looks fantastic! You've done an excellent job with joining the corners and edges.

Good work!!!! I'm impressed. I can see the angle of the wood cabinet. What i can't picture is the plastic (i think) cabinet that it is mounted in. Is that part of the original dash and you just made the new wooden part angled so you can see the gauges??? Perhaps when it's mounted into the dash it will become clearer to me. Maybe a picture of the back side of the wooden cabinet would also help. I do a lot of wood working using birds eye and curly maple, cherry, walnut etc so I'm interested in all angles so I can see the construction. Why re-invent the wheel. Nice work!!
Thanks,
TeJay

I should be installing it over the weekend but here is a picture of the original one. Not too driver friendly!

Very very nice John!
Just curious how you mounted the Scan Gauge and presume you've given yourself enough cable length to open it up for service without having to tear apart the whole dash...
Excellent craftsmanship!

If you look at the scan gauge body, the back is smaller then the front bezel, so it is actually just pushed in the opening and behind there is a double sided velcro that prevent it from falling in front due to vibration. I've done the same thing on my previous class C and never had n issue in 4 years.
The original cables are long enough but I do most of my connections via the additional monitor opening and the radio opening. This way I have access to all the switches, hvac control, 12 v outlets, scangauge II and my clock.
There is also an opening behind the scene accessible on both side of the plastic console. The new console only comes 5" forward from the passenger side making all commands and displays easily accessible. I'm sure other members will improve my design if they decide to attack this project. But from all my mock up designs, I think it will be a major improvement from factory.

Thanks for the info John.. I may do something similar for my ScanGauge in order to build some sort of holder for it.. Right now it just looks like a tacky add-on regardless of where I put it..

Big-Foot,
Yep, John sure did some very nice cabinetry work. I installed my Scan Gauge the same way. I had it stuck onto the dash and didn't like it. Cutting the hole in the dash was tricky (and scary) you only have one dash.
I put some painters tape on the dash, drew the lines then drilled four holes at the corners. Used a rasp type 1/8" cutter on the Dremel tool. It's kind of difficult because you don't want to over cut the plastic dash and the rasp kind of wants to take off and do it's own thing. I just went very slow as I got close then used some 100 grit sticky backed sand paper on a 1/8" thick piece of wood to get it just right. I put black silicone on the inside to keep it in place. The silicone makes it semi permanent but it won't have to come out unless it breaks.
On our dash there is a cover over all connections. I can remove the cover and have access to everything. While I was back there I added a double 12-V plug in for Cell phone chargers. The 12-V's is available all the time key on or off. It's connected to clean 12-V and I ran two cell phone charger cables under the dash so we can charge the phones. The cell phones just set on the carpet below the dash. If we are not using the cables they can be tucked up under the dash.
