Wink Peeling kitchen counter

We have had numerous issues with our 2021 Coachmen Chapparal 5th wheel and so far Forest River has taken care of everything. The latest is we found out our countertop is covered in paper, similar to heavy wall paper. It came from the factory that way. Itís beginning to lift up when it gets wet around the kitchen faucet. And around the edges where moisture never sees it. Wondering if others have the some problems? I will probably see if warranty will pay to fix or replace. If not what are others doing to fix it? Thinking of replacing the top with some corian?

Paper? Not a plastic laminate like Formica or similar? Paper would be a really poor choice for a counter top. -Bill

Yes itís paper on the countertop!

Itís ridiculous that they use a paper product on the kitchen countertop. Looks pretty until it gets wet and starts coming off! I have one photo but will take a few more.

It may not be the counter top that is peeling but the protective layer that the counter manufacturer puts on the counter to protect it from damage during cutting and install and the installer failed to remove it after the counter was installed. I have run into this on sticks and bricks homes in my business over the years.

Photo of countertop

Here is the underside of the kitchen countertop. Makes no sense to put this in the kitchen.

That is a mdf cored countertop. They have use it in low end countertops in homes for decades. You can help prevent water penetrating into the material by sealing the exposed mdf with a waterproof sealer like they use in modern shower wall installations.

We plan to seal it ourselves but this shouldn’t be installed on a kitchen countertop .
