Reasonable cost of a standard V10 tuneup?
Just wondering what a reasonable cost would be for a "standard tune-up" on a Ford V-10 engine in my 2008 Georgetown. I've had 2 quotes at $803 and $930. This included new plugs and boots, new air and fuel filters, and a complete fuel induction system cleaning. I used to be able to do this stuff myself so I kind of know how much labor is involved. I'm thinking both quotes are on the high side; or am I just behind times a bit?

I had a similar quote on my F-350 V-10 about a year ago. I'm not sure how difficult it is to get to the plugs, but I think the parts are pricey.

Interesting question, as I'm at the first service mileage (7500) on my 2016 E450.
Manual says there are different, increasingly expensive activities every 7500; 15,000; 30,000; 97,500; 105,000; & 150,000 miles. The 7500 mile one is just change the oil and rotate tires, which seems very reasonable, although I'm sure any place I go will recommend additional fancy stuff I need to avoid the end of the world.
So for that quote about $900 - what mileage was that for? Hopefully not just an oil change?

For whatever it's worth, never had a tune up on our 2000 v10 other than replace spark plugs at 88k miles at a cost of $65.83. What all is included in a tune up for $800-$900 dollars?? Sounds a bit excessive to me.
Good luck & safe travels...

First, do you really need this? How many miles? Changing the spark plugs is all that is included in a 'tuneup' anymore.
Fuel injection system cleaning not needed, imho.
Air and fuel filters periodically, yes.
Brake fluid and transmission fluid changes as well at appropriate years and miles.

Phew, glad I do my own work. If I weren't so darn busy I'd tell you to bring it over.
Maybe there's someone else you could find to give you a hand? It's not that hard to work on.

Extremely excessive in my book.
How many miles on the engine?

Fuel and air filters are about $15 each and the spark plugs are good for 100K miles. Unless you have that many miles or are experiencing misfires, leave them be. BIG rip off. Find another shop to change the filters and put a couple cans of Chevron Techron fuel treatment in the tank. Good to go Bro!

Hi Everyone, I have two quotes on a tune up. My coach is a 2005 Dynamax Isata 5 Ford E450 with 85,000 miles on it. Just had ALL mechanical done with the exception of Plugs, Cops and Boots. Local Black's Tire quoted $900. Local engine shop $2300 (totally ridiculous). I am planning a 10K to 16K trip next year and getting ready. Do I truly need a tune up? Any recommendations or comments are greatly appreciated.

Does it even have an external fuel filter, most are in tank and part of the pump. You need to drop the tank for that.

Not much you can do on today's engines to "tune" them. Yours does not have a distributor or a set of points to clean.
Fuel and air filter for sure, A set of plugs and good wires (cause you'll break yours pulling them off). Clean the MAF and a can or two of Seafoam and you're ready to go. A deep dive would be spraying the throttle body w/ CRC carb cleaner. All easy DIY's.
