Cool Residential apps Not Running Off Batteries Underway

Residential appliances will only power up with generator running or plugged into shore power. Batteries are new and fully charged and battery cutout switch works properly when cycled. Any thoughts/ideas?

Try turning in the inverter.

If you have an inverter with a switch you need to turn it on. Also depending on the size of the inverter and how it is connected will depend on what it will run.

If you do not have an inverter then if you want to run your 120v items you will need one.

What do you have as far as an RV? An what appliances do you want on? With my Cedar Creek which is a 5th wheel only the residential fridge works off of my inverter. Everything else that is 120V needs shore power to work.

That is the way my Kodiak Cub works. What do you have?

All good thoughts that I’ve considered in initial troubleshooting. My first thought was that there might be a voltage pickup value on the inverter for it to feed the circuit to the 120v reefer.

What is the TT make and model?
What is the inverter make and model?
Is there a transfer switch?
Is there a battery management system?
Is there more than one inverter?

Code Broken/Problem Solved:
Forest River 2017 Georgetown XL 369 has a Powerwatt 2000 amp pure sine wave inverter. It is located/hidden in a compartment above the driver-side LP storage tank. 120v distribution is plugged into one of the inverter’s 120v GFCI recepticals.
I found the GFCI tripped. GFCIs can only be reset with a potential difference across them so my battery disconnect switch had to be switched on (batteries > coach loads) and the GFCI reset properly. Refrigerator immediately had control panel and compressor power and problem solved. Note: due to combined loads the microwave won’t run on batteries while reefer is considered “essential service load” for campers and will run solely off house batteries.

Dealership walkthrough on coach never mentioned where inverter access was and certainly didn’t mention GFCI receptical on 120v distribution circuit.

Partly my failure to know what questions to ask. “You don’t get what you expect, you get what you inspect.” On first camping trip the oven door blew off in front of a ball of LP gas fire (feed tube compression coupling behind stove was not made up properly!!). Oven/stove had to be replaced. Wife OK.

Along with the many “discoveries” we’ve found on our coach and the warranty items that have plagued us, it’s obvious why RVs in many states are exempt from the states’ lemon laws. Manufacturers and dealers will only get serious about quality control if statutes don’t provide them immunity from lemon laws.

Thanks for the update!

There are a lot of us who share your opinion of lemon law exclusions of TT's and some times RV's, but there are not enough of us to counter the industry lobbies.

Stay cool...
