Slow power

We just purchased a 2013 FR3 30D. The previous owners lost their lives in a tragic auto accident near Moab, UT two years ago, so we don’t have their experience and knowledge to draw upon. Their daughter had it stored and we bought it from her, but she and her husband had pretty basic information to share. I look forward to experienced owners helping us with some questions which will arise as we familiarize ourselves with the coach. We have had a couple of Class C’s and one Class A over the years, but most recently a travel trailer, so we’re not total newbies. So here’s my first question. When I either start the generator or plug in to shore power, it takes about three minutes before I have power, as in seeing the microwave lights come on or being able to start the AC. It’s always been pretty quick in my other RVs. Any ideas on what is causing the delay? There is a surge protector mounted in the compartment where the power cord is. Don’t know if that was added or came with the coach. Thanks.

3 minutes to initialize seems like a long time, (especially for shore power connections). My 7000 Ownan would take quite a while to switch over to 110V, from when started, but shore power was pretty quick.

I would suspect there is something in the surge protector that is waiting to make sure it has clean and stable power before delivering full power.

Some SPs can take up to just under 4 minutes to kick in... (Progressive Surge units for example.)

Mine does the same thing. You've got a power protection device that is 'testing' the power to verify that it's OK before it passes it through to the coach. My guess is that if you look in the bay where the power cord comes in you'll find the device that is monitoring the power.
Mine looks like this one, though there are other brands.

I would agree with bobphoenix. I would bet you have some form of protection installed in the rv that protects the electrical system. We have the Progressive system that we plug into the power box then plug our 50 amp power cord into it. It does take a little bit before it allows power to the camper.

Thanks. That’s the exact unit we have, so I’m happy to know it’s normal to have the delay.
