After loading the new SIM into the Osprey and attempting to connect, I returned to AT&T's activation site to see if I could then associate the Osprey IMEI with the new SIM. It worked at that point without fussing about the IMEI. Was this just AT&T site being flakey or is there a real issue with new Osprey IMEI's on AT&T's database?

When the AT&T website responded that the Osprey IMEI was not recognized, it provided you the opportunity to "define" it to be a hotspot. If you had done that it would have activated the SIM without any further issue.
As for the difference in speed between your modems, that does provide some evidence that there may be an issue with the modem in your Osprey. The number of bars being displayed is fairly irrelevant since those displays are nothing more than qualitative measurements, but the fact that the Osprey modem appears to be using the 3G network while connecting to the 4G network may indicate a problem with its configuration. Thanks for the info; I'll share it with the technician working on your case.

Hmmm, I didn't see any further option to define the device. Maybe I missed it. Hopefully, that wasn't a necessary step to get the IMEI into AT&T's database.
Over the years, I've found the AT&T websites to be the worst on the internet. They often just don't work in Chrome...even after clearing cache/cookies.

Who can make the call on whether I get another Osprey 12ch shipped to me? I'm camping again in a week. Would be great to use a functional Osprey, but the Nighthawk will be my backup.
Just to see what's possible, I USB tethered my Nighthawk to the Osprey and configured both (Osprey saw and identified the Nighthawk). Using the Nighthawk on "cellular 2", the Osprey is connected and reporting speeds of 51Mbps.

By now you should have received a notification that WiFiRanger intends to ship you a replacement Osprey. It's better for us to debug the device after you return it, rather than to have you inconvenienced by it not working properly.

Hi Joel, I was able to successfully connect using the new Osprey and my prepaid AT&T SIM.
After configuring and rebooting cellular, I could *not* connect. I had to reboot the whole Osprey before I was able to connect.
Thanks, John

Issue with speed?
I have also noticed I can't get more than about 10 - 12Mbs real world throughput on the Osprey. Has anyone been able to get good speed through it?

In order to better understand the speed situation, you need to compare the Osprey's speeds to what you are measuring at the same location using the same SIM in another device. Speeds vary by location, by data plan and by device.
FWIW a speed of 10-12 Mbps should be more than adequate to support video streaming at the 1080p level.

Just back from week long camping. I had decent cellular signal at a small campground. Not a lot of folks using towers.
I used the Osprey with my AT&T prepaid SIM and got about 16Mbps. I then tethered my Nighthawk M1 to the Osprey. The Nighthawk was a few feet away perched on my slideout trim. The Nighthawk saw about 58Mbps.
Needless to say, this is disappointing performance. I expected the Osprey 12channel 2x2 MIMO to at least come close to the 5-year-old Nighthawk M1 4x4 MIMO. The Osprey's antenna was in the Air360+ dome on top of the camper while the Nighthawk's internal antenna was a foot or so below inside the camper.
Hard to justify the cost of the WifiRanger Osprey with such poor performance.
I'll do more testing on the next outing. I now have a Nighthawk M6 to play with. We shouldn't have to tether another pricey device to get decent performance.

If I recall correctly, the Nighthawk M1 has a Category 16 modem and MIMO 4x4 as you have noted. The Osprey has a Category 12 modem with MIMO 2x2.
It's not at all surprising that a Category 16 modem with MIMO 4x4 will outperform a Category 12 modem with MIMO 2x2. The fact that the Nighthawk happens to be 5 years old is irrelevant. Devices are rated by their specifications, not their age.

WiFiRanger Osprey power supply
Hello all,
I was just wondering if it is possible to plug the unit directly into an AC outlet, and how you would go about doing this? I have a plug for my TV right next to where it would mount, and do not want to worry about modifying the in wall wiring.
Thank you for any help you can provide!!

Most of the wires that need to be connected on the Osprey are so that it can connect to the already existing antenna wires inside the Winegard Air 360+. If you don't use those antennas the performance of the Osprey would be seriously degraded.
Furthermore, the Osprey is powered using 12V DC; the TV outlet would be of marginal use.

I have the exact same ATT connection problem as Jpcarro11. I am on the same ATT $50 100GB prepaid plan. I signed up at the ATT store and they registered the IMEI and SIM. It worked for the month of May and I paid June prior to the end of the month but when the month rolled over, I can no longer connect to ATT with the same "Connection Failed. Unable to set default route." error followed by a “No client ID with carrier” error message. I do have a ticket with WifiRanger Support although I believe it’s more of an ATT issue. So far after 4 ATT techs and WifiRanger Support I don’t have a solution.
Has there been a resolution for the issue with jpcarro11? Thanks in advance.

If you read back through jpcaro11's last couple of emails you will see that he did resolve his AT&T connection problem albeit that we did send him a replacement Osprey. His most recent email dealt with the download speeds he was achieving with the Osprey.
As for your concern, it does sound like an AT&T problem, but we'll do anything we can to assist you. Can you please tell me what Ranger you own and what it's 6 digit ID is. You can PM that information if you are more comfortable doing that.
