I checked on it, and you've already received an email from one of our senior people and have responded to it.

So I did a test with mine in the driveway, just using WiFi and not cellular. If my phone is connected to my house WiFi router, blazing speeds.

When I connect my Osprey to my house WiFi, then my phone to my Osprey WiFi, WAY WAY slower speeds, which is perplexing and disappointing. I could understand slightly slower speeds, but that seems really odd that even connected to my house high speed WiFi the connection to the Osprey WiFi is that much slower?

Seems like a firmware fix is in order...Click image for larger version

The first question is whether you are using any features such as SafeSurf or MultiWAN?

If you aren't using those, then the next thing is to go to the Setup page of the control panel and disable Control Panel Redirect. That's a helpful feature for new users, but at present it does slow things down a bit.

If none of these help, then please open a trouble ticket by sending an email to support@wifiranger.com. Include the 6-digit ID of your Osprey.

I couldn't find a setting called safe surf, but multi wan was off. I did disable control panel redirect and that seemed to have sped it up a little bit ...Click image for larger version

Wi-Fi Ranger

Hi all! Anyone know how to get the Ranger to recognize a Verizon iPhone 12 hotspot? Already pay for unlimited data, seems like I should be able to use it with the Ranger. Thanks in advance!

Getting non-Apple devices to connect to Apple-device hotspots can be a little tricky. What happens is that the Apple device will go into a sort of sleep state during which it is only visible to other Apple devices.

Here's an easy way make it visible to other devices:

1. Turn off the iPhone hotspot
2. Disable the main iPhone WiFi switch
3. Wait 30 seconds
4. Re-enable the WiFi switch
5. Enable the hotspot and see if you can connect the Ranger now

If this doesn't work, reboot the phone and try again.

jmfixitman - the SafeSurf enable/disable setting is at the bottom of the Main Tab of the Control Panel. At least for my Osprey it is.

Right, that's the only place where the SafeSurf switch can be found.

In my previous post I didn't think to ask if the Osprey is connecting to your WiFi using the 5 GHz radio or the 2 GHz? And which band are you using when your laptop or phone is connecting to the Osprey. The 5 GHz band will almost always provide faster results than the 2 GHz WiFi.

WiFiRanger is just about ready to release a new firmware update that has a number of performance improvements. Keep an eye on the Check for Updates link in the upper right corner of the control panel. I bet that by next week it will read Update Firmware
