110 outlets - do they work while driving RV?

Do the 110 electrical outlets work while driving? (Not connected to shore power and Generator not running).

I am installing TST TPMS, and need power to the repeater (12 Volt). The typical install would be to connect the red/black wires to a battery. I do not have a battery in a good location for the repeater.

I do have a 110 outlet in a good position - rear storage bay. I do realize that I will need a 110 conversion to 12 volt.

But the first thing to know is if the 110 power is available without shore power and generator running.

The RV is in storage, and not easily accessible.
Thank for you help!

Do you have an inverter? You will need one to get 120V from 12V. And in some MH's not all outlets run from the inverter.

Only if the coach is equipped with an inverter and that outlet is wired to the inverter.

Surly you can run the repeater wires to some convenient 12v circuit. You only need to find a power (hot) wire - the ground wire can connect to any piece of metal chassis.

Or you run the generator.

Thank you for your quick replies! Yes we do have an inverter.

Sounds like I will first need to test the outlet to determine if it is connected to the inverter.

Gary has the answer, above^^.

These repeaters are 12v for a reason and are designed to be wired to the coach 12v system, not necessarily to a battery, directly. Any 12v source that is powered will work, and it depends on where in your coach you intend to mount the repeater.

If you are not certain, post pictures or questions about locations your are considering and others will offer suggested places to tap into 12v power.

A good place I found to install a repeater is under the rear cap near the trailer/toad connector. There should be 12v power there that may be only hot when then ignition key is on. I have wired two of my motor homes and a friend's that way and it works quite well.

Yes, you need to test the outlet to see if it is powered from the inverter.

On my rig, all outlets except the washer and dryer outlets are energized by the inverter. But this arrangement varies between units even of the same model as mine depending on which options were installed.

I'd look for a convenient 12V outlet near where you'll mount your repeater like in the bedroom. Adding a 12V plug to the repeater wires is pretty straightforward. That way you can unplug it when you don't need it. If you do hardwire it into an existing 12V circuit make sure you have an on/off switch so the repeater doesn't become another parasitic load on your house batteries.

Food for thought; I installed my repeater on the trailer hitch crossmember all of the way towards the driver's side and powered it by tying into the 12 volt terminal & ground terminal on the 7 way trailer connector. In my case the 12 volts on the 7 way connector is only powered when the engine is running. So no parasitic drain from the repeater when the engine is off.

I installed our 12V repeater in the back bathroom up against the ceiling light using dbl sided tape and just tied the two wires into the light fixture wires. When we get ready to leave I just turn ON the light.

If its a gas MH and the Generator is in the rear, you can tap 12 volts from the battery side of the starter solenoid.

Tied mine into the power for the 12V light in the rear most storage bay. Good and close but protected from the elements. Added its own switch so I can turn it off when not towing.

Mounted ours in rear closet. Tapped into the closet light switch power. As long as the “salesman switch” is on, it’s on.
