Talking 12 volt TVs

What do you have.?

What is a good 12 v TV?

with or without DVD player

maybe a USB port

Dont plan on watching it much. But it would be nice to have without running a generator or having shore power

Sleep timer would be great also

Not asking for much here....

DC capable TVs tend to be on the smaller side. As long as you have 12v where you want TVs it should be easy install. If not, an inverter might be useful.

Amazon has dozens of DC TVs.

Some of the Insignia TVs sold at Best Buy used to run off a small power brick. They took in 120v and the power brick put out 12v. I've got one of those in my trailer running directly from the 12v system.

There are a few other TV brands out there using a power brick, but you've got to look closely as not all run off 12v (some are 18v, etc.)

The TVs sold as 12v usually are small as mentioned already, and usually are pretty crappy. If you can find a regular TV which uses a power brick which provides 12v power to it, then you can just ditch the power brick and get a power cord to plug it into the 12v outlet like I did with the Insignia.

Got ours years ago at Costco.

Just need to look at power requirements.

Larger set may have too big of backlight so size likely restriction.

Just check the data sheets, it may be tricky as the adaptor output is 12VDC but line is 120 so it will state 120 volt.

You may need to look as what comes with the unit so see if it has a separate power supply.

Worst case is using a dedicated inverter just for the tv.

May be able to find efficient unit and also add a VRLA battery too.

Jensen has an RV line of 12v TV's - Jensen RV Televisions. According to Jensen these are built to withstand more vibration than a typical consumer model. Our ORV came with a 40" model (JTV4015DC) that is rated at 70 watts. We don't use it much but the picture quality is good and it has a few different attachment ports for different devices - we have an Apple TV that connect up at times.

We have a 19" RCA 12v TV we bought at Wally's for $59 about 2 years ago. It has USB and 2 HDMI ports which we use for Roku or our media player. We only use it when boondocking and it works well enough to keep us entertained!

Check when the model was introduced, newer model TV's tend to consume less power (lower watt draw), so if the choice is between a 5+ year old 12V TV design, and a new 120V TV, you may be better off with the 120V TV plugged into an inverter and take the conversion losses hit from the inverter, good modern inverters at optimal power output are 88-92% efficient at converting 12V to 120V. So a modern TV that draws 35 watts with 120V hookup will beat an older design 12V TV that draws 55 watts.

I have a smaller (22 inch) Vizio M220MV that has 2 HDMIs, USB and a VGA port on it. It is described as a 120v model but has a 12v power brick in line. I run my Vizio directly off the house battery. The VGA tops out at 1920x1080 but works fine with my laptop. An Apple TV box plugs into the HDMI and does everything I need when it's not being used as a monitor.

They are a discontinued model but are available ever so often on ebay in the $150 - $175 range. New remotes are still available.

I have a 12-volt TV in my ORV. I used it once. It is OK but not like the 4K TV I have at home, so it is not comfortable to watch. Since there is no TV reception where we camp it is pretty useless for us.

If I could find a 12-volt 4K model and could get the local university football games on it maybe I would use it. I will probably relocate the stock TV out of the trailer.

I run a small 250 watt sine wave inverter and that way I can use any TV or DVD player i want. I also comes in handy for charging the laptop. The inverter is wired to the house batteries with its own disconnect so there is no power draw when I'm not using the inverter. We can also bring our PVR from home and watch recorded shows from our home system.

I use this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08LP9Q91V...roduct_details to power my 19v Vizio TV and run/charge the laptops. Working fine so far.

I would go with a normal 120VAC TV and a small inverter to power it!

I had to replace a video board in our 55 inch house 4K TV. When in it I had a look at the power supply. It's basically a transformer converting 120V AC to 12 volt and 5 volts DC. That's standard for any desktop PC too.
So I strongly suspect that for anyone who messes with electronics on a circuit board level could probably easily convert most flat screens to work on straight 12 volts (and 5 volts) and bypass the 120 volt conversion.

No doubt there are some out there that work on some weird 19.5 voltage or something like some laptops do to throw a curve in things. But anyway..

I have an AXESS model TVD1804-24, 12 volt 24" HD TV, with built in DVD player. there is also a 32" version, but it wouldn't fit in the bedroom, where I wanted to mount it. I am very pleased with both the picture quality, and the DVD player, but the sound volume is rather feeble. Fortunately, external speakers are pretty cheap.

Here is the current model. It seem that they corrected the volume problem.
