1997 damon challenger - tapping sound

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone else has this problem and how did you resolve it? The Chevy engine in our RV starting making this tapping sound, it went away and came back. I was told that it has something to do with the rocker arms but that it shouldn't get any worse and RV is still ok to travel. Any suggestions?

May be a lifter that is deflating. I would change oil and use 5w40 with lots of detergent additives and see if the lifter will clean itself. If the tapping continues, it may cause cam lobe damage. Is yours a 454? Old school chev v8s had a cam lubing problem with the rear two cylinders, not so much in the big blocks but common in the small blocks (350, 327, 305 ect).

Could it be a crack in exhaust maniflold? I had a crack in mine and the noise would stop once the engine got warm and expanded. Best of luck !

No, I've had someone look at it and he doesn't think it's that since it's continuous. It did stop for a brief period but it came back and stayed that time. Thank you for input, I appreciate it

That's good it was an expensive fix. I had a tapping comming from a 3.0 liter mercruiser and it was the valves. This tapping was continuous. Best of Luck!
