Don't have the MH (fulltime) yet. I'm looking for opinions on bed quality and/or modification.

Generally, what is the bed quality like in the DPs? I assume there's a lot of variety in factory installations, but I'm thinking it might be beneficial to custom fit a residential bed.

Thoughts? Recommendations?

Our Damon Essence came with the sleep number matress (king size) and has dual controls. Very comfortable to sleep in. Not sure how a residential bed would work, but if you took out ALL the MH bed there might be room provided you don't want something with a hight headboard etc. Cannot imagine why you would want to swap out anything other than the matress system however.

X2 for the sleep number..... It's worth it. Much better then any of the factory beds that I have seen. Most come with a cheap mattress

Our DP (midrange price) came with a cheap mattress. A lot of them come with the Sleep Number bed now. We had one and didn't like it, some do. We wanted a queen bed in our guest room, so we bought a nice pillow top mattress that was similar to our master bedroom bed. We used the box springs in the guest room with the RV mattress. Placed the new pillow top in the M/H. Too bad for the guests!

If you're buying a regular mattress for an RV, make sure you buy one that is a little softer than normal since it sits on a plywood base in the RV.

Our 2000 DSDP came with the standard mattress, hated it. When we ordered the present 2002 DSDP we ordered the optional "Luxury pillow top" mattress. Very nice and much better than the 2000 mattress.

Ya, we have what was once a fantastic pillow top in our home, bit it has formed horrible sag spots that hurt our backs.

We're considering a Sleep# or Tempurpedic type bed and (of course) want to grace the rig with one.

I hadn't considered that it may be as simple as swapping mattresses.

A standard queen size matress is 60in.X 80in. and is used in both the home and RV's We just swapped out our 2011 Allegro RED standard mattress for a new Latex pillow top mattress and went to a California King which is 72in X 80in. with minor modifications it fit perfectly and never slept better.

Thanks... ya for some reason I was assuming that MHs would use custom sizes.

Our coach came with a Sleep Number in it. I put a 3" foam topper on it. That essentially made it like our Sleep Number 10 that we have in the house. Sleep great in either place and both have each side individually adjustable.

For us.....RVing is always better when we know that we sleep as well in the RV as we do at home. We even have the same pillows, sheets and bath towels.
