Question 2000 Bounder 34d Ford V10

Recently when taking off from a dead stop my Rv feels like the brake is on (which it isn't) or the trans isn't dwnshifting to low. Only has 13000 miles and problem just started. Any idea?

On some RV's there is a brake that is on the drive shaft. When you put your unit in park. The brake holds the drive shaft from turning. If the brake is not lubricated it can get stuck holding the drive shaft from turn. Feels like you have the brakes on. This brake unit is near the front of the drive shaft.

I burnt out a motor not knowing the drive shaft brake was faulty.

The F53 chassis does not apply the parking brake when put into park. They use a parking pawl in the transmission to hold position. The foot pedal for the parking brake must be used to apply the parking brake. This is not to say that the parking brake shoes came off and is binding though.

To the OP. When you take off from a stop can you feel all 4 shifts? The torque converter usually locks up in 2nd gear so you may notice that. For a second gear start the intermediate clutch must be activated. The only difference between 1st and 2nd is that clutch. You may also have to check all 4 brakes to make sure one of them are not binding.

Is it possible to place your coach in neutral then lift the back tires off the ground with your hydraulics. Then try to spin the rear tires manually.
