2000 National Tradewinds 300HP Cat Turbo Diesel
Just experienced a buzzing sound (sounds like low air buzzer???) under power going uphill on long grade. Quits under normal driving and minor grades. Anyone have similar experience to help diagnose possible cause. Runs great otherwise. No power loss, or other problem just the buzzer sound.
Thank you in advance for your help and input.

Could it be your engine temperature? There is light and buzzer on my 03 freightliner with the CAT... possibly your light is out? The light and buzzer come on around 216 degrees..
Just a thought...

Welcome to iRV2.
Our 300 HP Cat engines ( 3126B ) are similar with possible exception of radiator placement , mine is a side radiator .
If you're sure the noise is from the engine compartment , first thing I'd look at would be the clamps on the air intake system , from the turbo through the CAC ( Charge Air Cooler ) up to the intake manifold, because from your description , it sounds like one of the connections is leaking under max turbo boost.
Here's some info on our engines .

After seeing this , I guess the question is .
Is your Tradewinds on a Freightliner chassis?
Rear radiator or side rad?

Why didn't you take a close look at your gauges first.
Next did you look at your dash lights?
Have you ever heard this same sounding buzzer before?
Like prior to starting, or after it has been sitting for a while?

Thanks for all the great input. No indication of problem from warning lights or gauges. I will check into all the options.
Best, David
