2004 Brave battery issue

New battery will not hold a charge, My mechanic says that the starter relay is not disconnecting, the stairs do not retract all the way, the emergency brake, when depressed makes a pump is engaged. The aux. switch makes a loud clunking noise when it is turned off. He says there are 3 leads off the engine battery that are not disengaging. Our last trip out was New Years to Palm Springs and everything worked fine. I think a relay may have failed, but not sure where to start.
Thanks for any and all help.

If your mechanic had hands on to your vehicle and diagnosed your problem, why not have him fix them....or go fix the things he told you?

He's got the meters which can track down parasitic drains on a battery......

I would start with the stairs not retracting all the way. If they are partially extended the motor may be drawing current while trying to retract the stairs. Feel under the stairs and check to see if the motor is warm while just sitting. If so disconnect the wiring connector to the stairs and see if the battery continues to go dead. Do the stairs extend normally when they are supposed to?
Depending on parking brake design you may have a motor engaging when you push the pedal.
A clunk when turning the aux. switch off or on is normal as you are hearing the solenoid disconnect or connect.
If a relay failed there would be no current draw because it isn't working.
