2004 Fleetwood Southwind 37C

I just looked at a 2004 Fleetwood Southwind 37C and I like the RV but after I took it for test drive I was very surprised as to the lack of power and loud reving of the mother while going up small hill (overdrive?). It has the Chevy 8.1 L engine on a workhorse frame.
Can anyone let me know if this is normal or does it sound like a problem?

Have you driven other similar motorhome to have a comparison as to power and noise? These coaches are not fast, especially in a large gasser. As for noise, the engine is right next to you and under load it will downshift to higher rpm and maybe the clutched cooling fan kicked on which can be quite a roar by itself.

I know I'll probably get yelled at here but... That is a common complaint from people driving Gasser's! The engine is up front with you and gas engines are not as efficient as diesels. Diesels and gas engines also operate at different ends of the RPM scale. Gasser's develop their HP at the upper end, high RPMs are noisy. Diesels operate and generate HP at the lower end of the scale. The combo of low RPMs and being hung way out in back of you make the diesel a lot less noisy in the coach where you are. Diesels are loud when behind it so the rear placement is probably the key.
