2004 Monaco Knight dash lights don’t work
Hi, I’m new to IRV2 but not new to camping. I have a 2004 Monaco Knight 38PST and there seems to be a short in the headlight switch. The headlights work just fine but the dash lights do not. I can turn the knob and there’s a small sweet spot that will just light up the AC controls but it’s very faint. I’ve had a difficult time trying to find a new switch but I’m thinking it’s from an older model GM headlight switch. Has anyone had any experience with their MH like this? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you know where the problem is and what to do.
My 2005 Monaco/Beaver uses a headlight switch from a 1971 GMC pickup.
Easy to get and pretty easy to change.

Yep, the rheostat coil is probably broken. Take the switch out and take it to a GOOD auto parts house for a replacement.
And, just in case you don't know already the pull out knob is released by a small button on the bottom of the switch. The bottom is the bottom as shown in Mike's picture up above. When installed the wires may face any direction, find the switch's bottom by feel, push on the button and pull the switch "on". Sometimes you have to pull the switch on to get the button to push all the way in and release the knob.
When the knob is out you can generally use a large screwdriver to unscrew the bezel. Drop the switch and wires down where you can see them and unclip and unplug the wires.

I usually draw a diagram showing which color wire goes to what spot. Taking a picture helps with wire orientation also. Disconnect the battery first to avoid arcing. Best of luck to you!

I knew I was on the right track just wasn’t 100% confident. Thank you!

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!
Others have answered your question but I noticed you are kinda new on IRV2 and wanted to say hello!
