Question 2007 American Coach Tradition Roof section

We are looking at a 2007 American Coach which has a section of the roof just behind the front cap that is covered in a black, almost non-skid material. Its wearing off and we are looking at having to handle that repair ourselves. What is that material made of, and could it be prepped and shot out of an HVLP Sprayer? Pictures attached.

I've not seen one like that before, but both the roof and the front cap are painted fiberglass, so I'm thinking that black strip can be sanded and re-painted as well. The front cap fiberglass is clear-coated and the black section may be as well - that sure looks like peeling clear-coat.

I can't imagine what they put a black strip there - my '04 runs the white roof right up to the front cap. I'd paint it a lighter color for lower heat gain.
