2011 American Eagle 45 B opinions

We are looking at a 2011 American Eagle 45B. It has an ISX 650HP engine and seems to be in good repair. We have agreed upon a price and I plan on having an inspection completed.

I wanted feedback on handling and ride quality and anything I need to focus on that is an inherent issue. We have a 2005 Fleetwood Providence and I like the ride and handling of it. We drove a 2010 Newmar Essex and I didnt like the handling or steering feel.

From what I have read the Liberty Chassis is custom built with Spartan Mountain Master K3 components and that its sturdy, quiet and a great feel. I did read where some people had issues with the ISX engine valves, the engine has 40-45K miles on it.

I also like to have the rear view camera on most of the time so I can see my towed car and see if I can clear a lane change before I put on the signals.

The seller is sending a video of the interior so we can see how easy it is to get to the half bath when driving. My wife and I like to be able to use the bathroom and have lunch without having to slide anything out.

Any comments or feedback good or bad would be great.

Hello mark

I have a 2011 Tradition I bought new, it drives well. I am not sure what floorplan this model is but mine has the half bath across from the fridge and it is easy to use in route.
My only complaint is I cant fully open the fridge with the fws in, but I can use it.
Mine has been a good rig.

Eric

We have a 2010 American Heritage and I love the way it drives and handle. Could sit in the seat 10 hrs a day. Smile

We put a deposit on it today. Fingers crossed it's the best decision. I think I will like the 650 hp ISX.

That should be a very nice coach. American Coach does a great job and their customer support is top notch.

AC tech support is the best around, we are on AC number two.

Also, they don't make the ISX as a 650 any more, they have reduced the HP to 600.

My guess is you have not read of one of our members failed 650hp cummins. That engine failed twice! $30,000 if it does not break the block.

I did, but I also have talked with a few over the road guys and they say an ISX is good for 250k before any costly maintenance.

I saw that, that's why I mentioned it. Call AC and talk to the techs about problems with the 650.

The American Eagle has always been one of my favorite coaches. And the year your looking at is also a good choice. Unfortunately American like so many others have let quality control slip as demand has increased over the last few years.

Make sure you have records so you know the history. And see if you can find someone on the American forum who lives near the coach. Few things better than an owner doing a look-see!

I had an 2012 Tradition and a friend of mine ,still has his 2011 American Eagle.....
I personally had so many problems in a few short years ( and when it was 6 months old with 6,000 miles on it...we spent 4 days at Decateur while they put 163 man hours of repairs into it} that I will NEVER own another American Coach..
Our friend has spent at least 3 months a year in Lazy Days ,on a yearly basis, getting as he says" Getting Humpty Dumpty Put Back Together Again"
Presently he is on 3 month trip out west ..smart wheel stopped working;jacks won't go down..one slide stays in..never could use back outside awning ..can't get it back in...GPS never worked correctly....story goes on and on
But, if you are not a large person, you can get to the middle bathroom and refrig with the slides....C
