2013 Fleetwood Excursion 33A -now DIY bunk model!
Hi Folks,
Haven't posted in awhile but have a big update. My wife asked that I build bunks in our 2013 Fleetwood Excursion 33A to go from being able to sleep 6 to sleep 8. Being a former college architecture major I took on the challenge. The unit already has a drop down electric bunk over the front cab, the ability for the l-shaped sofa to sleep two, and then the rear bedroom thus sleeping a total of 6. We really like the living room plan of the 33A and did not want to upgrade to an official bunk model motorhome.
To gain two more sleeping areas I re-engineered an area of our coach that was originally designed for a washer/dryer and extra cabinetry. Not only was I able to create a dual bunk but the bottom bunk is convertible into a dinette-like seating area during the day or when on the road.
It turned out better than I expected. There were specific build guidelines that I took (like not screwing to the floor, ceiling, or walls). I was able to secure into the existing wood infrastructure. I reused the w/d electrical outlet for a wall lamp.
My kids and wife love it. So the message is -if you want a bunk model but don't have one -and you are handy with building stuff--create one! Pics are attached that show the evolution of the build.
We are now ready for our summer epic trip from Ohio to the Grand Canyon this summer.

That looks great. I would love to do it but don't have knowledge.

Nice, perfect. The extra 2 people have eating space now when it is raining out too and it looks like you didn't impact your resale value much either.

Wow! That bunk setup is better than our factory bunks in our 2013 Discovery! Very creative use of space. Awesome job.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments! I think this thread will move to the Fleetwood mods section soon to live there.
