2017 Fleetwood Bounder Carefree Awning

I just traded my Winnebago Adventurer for a Bounder 36H. It's an OK coach but definitely not the quality of the Winnebago. We can learn to live with everything except the automatic electric awning. The carefree awning is designed so flimsy that at the first sign of a breeze it auto retracts. Fleetwood decided to not install the carefree controls that gave the option of turning it off. The awning is 100% useless in the current state which makes the Bounder 50% useless. I have contacted my dealer which in turn contacted Fleetwood and carefree. I don't foresee anything good happening. Any suggestions? Thanks to all!

I just purchased a 2017 Holiday Rambler 35K. It also has the carefree awning, I agree it not as good as my previous awning. When it rained water poured between the awning and the side of the motor home. Also would not store completely on the back side. Screws missing or broken off on the brackets where it attaches to the motor home. Only thing I can see that is good is now I just push a button to put it out. Yes it is also very flimsey, will not take much wind and should be stored every time you leave the motor home or go to bed. I have mine at the present time back to the dealer trying to get some of the problems solved.

I have this same awning on our Bounder 35K, and agree it is next to worthless. We've found that if we don't put it all the way out, it doesn't close as much. DH has also been on the ladder pulling the wires to keep it out, and we tried pulling the fuse with mixed results (not sure we had the right fuse for part of it).

Our final solution - we bring a pop up canopy and set that up. This will have to do until we get a chance to bring it to the dealer and see if they can replace the sensor. I've read that some are too sensitive, so I'm hoping if that is replaced it will be better.

Awning

We have the same awning on our 2017 35K Bounder. We have had three motors and a brand new awning installed. Supposedly fixed. First trip with fixed awning worked fine. Then after left out for one straight day started to sag on one end. Retracted and brought back out and started to sag more and then a screw severed and shot out. Now at Fleetwood. Will see what happens.

I have a 2018 Holiday Rambler Vacationer 35P. I put out my awning and when i tried to retract it stopped. Not realizing some debris had gathered until it stopped. is it common to have to get on top of RV and sweep the Awning? Does the Carefree tilt down like other Awnings I have seen? So this weekend I get to learn how to extend the awning manually. Any suggestions for the guy who feels a little dumb?

Look at the front of the awning tube. There is a plastic plug. Pop it out and insert a 3/8 drive enxension and ratchet into it. The instructions didn't say anything about extending it though, only retracting. Guess it is worth a try.

The instructions do say when retracting manually that if the front edge of the awning sticks out a 1/2-3/4 inch it is good to go.

I agree with most of your sentiments on this awning.
My problem is the back end Is lower than the front when extended. Dealer has raised that end two times
and each time it again lowers with a few uses. They say they can only adjust it so far and keep claiming it has been damaged due to light branch scratches on it.
No one has mentioned lowering the front end to match the back. Anyone think this would work and has anyone had this same problem? Thanks

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

Congrats on the new rig! Personally I would not want an electric awning. Hope you get the problem resolved. Keep her between the ditches!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!
