2018 Newaire Blank Nav/Radio Screen

Hello:

Desperately looking for a little direction to bring our radio/nav screen back to life:- Last weekend we lost Silver Leaf Screen and Nav screen simultaneously.....Weird coincidence or obvious cause???

Craig at Newmar steered me toward the F2 fuse on the relevant circuit board (Silver Leaf board behind plastic screen adjacent to cord wheel compartment) and sure enough it was blown, so thank you Craig! Silver Leaf is all good.....

Nav screen still dark though......Tracked two fuses in forward basement driver side to Navigation (F1) Nav Syst Batt (F20) both OK....Went to dash and pulled River Park Radio out 20 AMP in line fuse on back of said device good......Tested for 12VDC on harness plug at RP Infotainment module of both red and yellow wires (as instructed by River Park)....Results:- Between ground and yellow wire 12v DC, between ground and red wire Nothing........River Park advised that 12 VDC needs to go to both yellow and red wires and that this was a Newmar issue.

Newmar couldn't help further and so here I sit....no camera's is the most critical deficit and makes life difficult parking and maneuvering in tight spots.

Everyone is aware of the state of the wiring behind that screen and it's simply appalling, but nothing is obviously lose or disconnected and that red wire disappears down into the bowels of the coach. I have no idea where it terminates or where it is supposed to get it's 12V DC supply.

I am now at the end of my capability and seek advice or suggestions from our fellow New Aire community.......

I was considering trying to provide a 12vDC supply from an alternate source that might be lurking in that mess of wires, but I would think River Park would have suggessted that if it were a viable solution.

Anyway, many thanks for anyones help!!

I would jump it out. It would be from the same source.

Your coach is LOADED with 12 volt sources. It sounds like you blew an unknown fuse to the radio. Just temporarily grab power from another 12 volt source and power the radio until you can resolve the issue. Be sure to add a fuse.

With that said.....in the run bay, electrical under the driver's window, there is one fuse that is radio related on that board. If any of those fuses are bad, there should be a red LED on. Second, in the power cord bay, there are at least four fuses for the radio display, subwoofer etc. On the back of the plastic cover that hides those fuses is the legend for what they power. i would stick an ohm meter across each fuse that is associated with the radio and dash.

One other note....sometimes that maze of wiring will have an inline fuse connected to the radio. Follow the red wire as far back as you can and make sure there isn't another fuse on that wire.

Just wanted to express my thanks to Dave & Don for their responses to my nav screen issue........I will jump the yellow 12VDC to the red with a fused link at the infotainment modules connector, and see if it comes back to life.......If that works, then I will disconnect and continue the search for the elusive fuse in the bay adjacent to the cord reel.....

These coaches are an adventure and certainly not for the faint hearted......we seem to have issues arising almost every trip we take.....we will remain calm and carry on though

Thank you both again!! These blogs sure are a comfort

Blank Nav & Silver Leaf Screen Issues Finally Resolved....and a suprising conclusion

So I just wanted to share my findings after 3 weeks of difficulty with the familiar F2 Fuse blowing repeatedly which takes out the Radio/Nav Screen and Silver Leaf screens on our 2018 New Aire:

It turns out I had two very separate issues:

1/ I could never find a fuse that feeds 12VDC to one part of the infotainment module, (it requires two separate supplies per the manufacturer) but following suggestions on this blog I added a 5 AMP fused link from the 12VDC source that was working and resolved the Nav/Radio Screen issue, but the infamous F2 fuse continued to blow repeatedly and sometimes after days of usage without blowing........

2/ Just yesterday I changed the fuse again and after unplugging the infotainment module entirely (thinking this might be the culprit) and the fuse held up for about a minute before blowing again.....on this occasion though the familiar (and terrifying) odor of burned electronics permeated the coach!!

Following a careful search I found the odor coming from the high cabinet above the drivers seat where I found a black plastic module labeled "PS1301" which turned out to be the root cause of all our fuse issues. This module simply transforms and supplies power to the WI Fi Ranger module, and goes by the name of "Ranger Power Conditioner" This module was the subject of recalls in 2019 and our coach evidently got missed. It basically gets hot enough to melt the plastic cover pulls more than 5 amps, and it eventually shorts out completely, and then takes out the F2 fuse immediately you replace it.

Another mystery solved and with the amazing support from Erica at Newmar Service we had a new revised module UPS's overnight under warranty....so a huge Thank You to Newmar and Erica in particular.......(The new module is built inside a ventilated aluminum heat sink.....so hopefully problem solved for the long term)

Found your thread today. Good information shared that will hopefully help us out on a very similar issue on our 2018 Newmar New Aire. The right display which shows the cameras had vertical lines then it lost power.
