2022 Onan5.5 gets too hot won’t start
2022 Entegra Vision XL 34G, can’t start 5.5 Onan generator on the road, to run roof air, in southern states. Generator ‘box’ extremely hot, well over 200*,it has the Jayco plenum installed on the outside to the underneath of the generator intake, still gets crazy hot , it try’s to start- shuts off. Just bought this coach 3 1/2 weeks ago, between the steering issues, and the interior finish issues, curtain valance, front slide wood trim fell off, hot water heater works when it wants to , and few other issues I’ve been trying to fix, this coach is trying my patience.
Jayco says that’s all they have for the ‘fix’. Any suggestions on the generator would be appreciated .Generator has 10 hrs., on it, oil is ok.

Download the Onan Owner''s Manual for the genset. They have a section on getting the trouble code for a genset that won't start.
Google it!!

Subscribing as my Onan QD 3200 also shuts down with an "overheat" code when traveling in 100 plus temps. This year I might try removing the front cover, although this may make things worse as it may disturb the flow of air design. Have you tried that yet? Is your 5.5 air cooled? I believe the temperature is monitored by the oil temperature.
I also thought about installing a 12 volt cooling fan in the compartment.

You can go to a Cummins Onan service center. I have had good luck with several, but they are expensive.
Or, maybe replace the fuel pump. I chased a shut down when driving condition on a previous MH; changed lots of things, and finally replaced the fuel pump which solved the problem. Some forum comments indicate the Onan fuel pump can be marginal even when new.

We have 2016 Bounder with Onan 5.5 gas gen. With 5 summers & starting our 6th, we run Gen while driving to run A/C units in S TX, LA, AR, MO, & TN. Never had a problem. That new of Gen shouldn’t be give you problems. Is it still under warranty? If so take it Onan/Cummins. Made to run with all covers on. Could be bad fuel or something seriously wrong with Gen.

I had an overheat issue with my ONAN 5.5 running on regular motor oil. Saw a thread somewhere suggesting synthetic oil. Did the change. Problem gone!

Make sure no debris is blocking anywhere.
