4 camera dashcam/security camera system

Just finished up my most recent modification to our 2016 Winnebago Tour. I tapped into the video feeds from the side and rear cameras and added a front video camera, wired all of them into a 4 channel mini DVR to create an always on, always recording 360 degree dash camera / security video. The DVR I purchased has motion detection with push notifications so I can set it up to alert me if it detects motion. I can also view the live or recorded video on my iPhone. The install was fairly straightforward, I purchased molex connectors and wired up a pigtail to tape into the video feeds, wired a 12v to 5v power converter to power the DVR and wired the coach camera controller to an always on 12v power source. I plan to add a master power switch in case for some reason I need to power the system down, for now the chassis battery switch fills that need. Everything tucked nicely back into the dash and the DVR fit perfectly under the drawer of the center console. This leaves easy access to to DVR external memory. All in this mod cost just over $100 with everything purchased from Amazon.
There were a few hiccups, the Winnebago wiring is a disgusting rats nest so that was a challenge to fight the urge to disassemble everything and organize it better, and the infrared lights on the front camera created a bad reflection at night ( I popped open the camera case and unplugged them [emoji3] ) but overall I’m pretty happy with the install. Other than the camera on the dash the system is invisible. Currently with 32g of storage I can record 12hrs on all four channels in pretty high Click image for larger version

That looks like a pretty cool mod! Did you lose the rear and side camera function when you are driving? How does it handle motion when you are driving? Can you post a link to the video recorder you used?

Thanks

Thanks Lt Dan!
By building the pigtail and tapping into the video feed line I did not interrupt the coach function, it all operates as normal. For the motion detection while driving, I just turn that feature off through the APP, super simple.
Here’s a link to my parts list, the only other parts used were things I already had like some small pieces of wire, a few splice connectors , heat shrink tube and electrical tape....

Thanks for sharing! That’s an impressive build especially for the cost. I’ve been wishing for a way to do exactly this.

It’s called XMEye, I believe it’s specific to this DVR.

Great mod and I was thinking lately of how I could do something similar to what you did for my Phaeton since I picked it up in April. For now I bought a dashcam to at least cover in front of me when driving. I like it because you're utilizing the current 3 camera's the coach already ironically I was on another post the other day where it seemed the OP was adding FooKoo 4 camera viewing system to a 2018 Allergo 36LA. I had asked why he wasn't utilizing the cameras the coach already has installed. I haven't got an answer back yet but I'm going to direct him, hopefully to your post perhaps this will change his mind. He might be trying to add a completely autonomous system for just security I'm not sure. Anyway great job but I do have a few question. How and where did you attach the front camera to? and how do you keep it clean from road grime and rain from driving? or did u mount it inside on the dash? I couldn't tell from the picture. Also where did you mount the drive and the DVDR? Thanks and again great job. I do got to say IMHO this task isn't for the faint at heart and you need to be not only have good technical knowledge but be a careful not to cause any issues with something else in the coach.

I am unhappy with the existing three camera setup. The monitor is way out of my sight line while driving for one thing. The side cameras are mounted on the side mirrors and only have a backward view. They also would switch to full screen when the turn indicator was used. I need the rear view when I am changing lanes so I can be sure my trailer is clear the following vehicle in the target lane. So I cut the trigger wires. My desire was the 360 view single screen but those systems are prohibitive. The Fookoo system will show any arrangement of all four cameras on a 9" or 10" monitor. It records all four continuously on an SD card in the monitor. No separate DVR with moving parts. The wired system is about $400. The side cameras will be mounted between the slides on the left, and after the awning on the right. This puts the view closer to the trailer. The main goal is to see objects close to the coach and trailer when maneuvering in tight quarters.

I will probably run the wires on the roof and enter the coach through the front cap a foot or two behind the center running light. I removed the back panels of the overhead compartment flanking the front TV and I can reach inside the cap to snag the wires. From there I can route them to the side and then down the A pillar cover. Then along the side until I can get into the accessible part of the dash. The monitor will be mounted to the right of the gauge cluster on the dash edge. It will not block the windshield because of the large shelf. I hope to document and publish the install.

Thanks for your rationale of adding your 360o system to your coach. Great reasons and I hope you provide insight on how you did it when completed along with pictures. It already sounded on your original post others may be interested in doing it. In fact that insight and pictures might be something to put onto this Tiffin Site on IRV2 where many can see it. Thanks

Same here. I see a Hard Drive but that is not a DVR unless I am missing something. Great idea and I am onboard!
