94 BMC 37' near Charlotte NC-$35k - Wanderlodge Owners Group
and as a noob this is what makes me want to pull my hair out. nada says this coach wasn't made in 94 but production started in 95 and the value is 11-13k not the 35k asking price. nada is as much a curse as it is a blessing to buyers, sellers, dealers, and the family pet imho.

If you are handy 40k is not a bad budget.
There are a lot out there and always check NADA or equivalent for values. I noticed most Private Sellers ask too much for their units, so check values. Don't get something too old that parts will be a nightmare to find.
It's not easy finding competent people for RV repairs.
I hate to say this but buying an RV new enough and financing it is not a bad thing. Rates are good, terms can be good and interest may be tax deductible, and if buying a diesel unit an extended warranty can be good for those large repairs if it happens.
Good luck in your endeavors.

NADA and the like only work on high volume units that are often sold through dealers and financed. Most low volume units (cars, rv's, boats, etc...) are private-private transactions that NADA just doesn't have the volume to report accurately..and most of those that do end up at dealers are junkers or poorly kept units that have been traded off because they couldn't be sold in the private market. It's not just an RV thing, NADA needs high volume and a broad spectrum of "vehicle conditions" to be accurate and it just isn't there in this situation.

Either way, go look at a BUNCH of RV's..newer mid range, older high end, slide, no slide, etc.. etc... and get a feel for what you want.

What I love you may hate

Just a data point. In 2010, we bought an '02 Georgetown 325 Class A from the original owner who had developed medical problems. His original all-inclusive purchase price as in the around $85K. We bought it for what he still owed on his loan, which was $37K, about $4K under Blue Book.

We had 4 good years with it until the cost of $4.50 a gallon gas and $30 State Park overnight fees ran us off. When we realised we were dipping into our IRAs to support the RV lifestyle, we decide to quit.
