5-40w synthetic in diesel generator

Off the top of my head my genny calls for 5-30 cold -10-30w large range middle temp range- 15-40 in high temps 90+.
Since we should start genny in the winter it seems like a good option. When my genny was made there wasn't 5-40 or other wide range multi grades available to list as an option.
I guess most of the real run time is for AC I have heating grids in them but an Aquahot so unless plugged , I just run grids as amp draw for genny when it's cold.
Sams has the T6 5-40w on sale.
Actually the truck oils are on sale more than anything else there.

I have a diesel generator, so I use the same oil in it that goes in the coach. Shell Rotella 15W40.

Not going to hurt anything other than your wallet. I do not worry about exercising my generator every month. RV generators are the only ones that are delicate.

There is no reason not to use it, if that's what you want.

That's a good choice...especially if you are seeing any cold weather.

I use 5W-40 Rotella T6 full synthetic in both the coach and Onan generator. Coach starts good in the winter down to 15°. The Onan seems to like this oil also. As far as that goes, I just started using this oil in the 2.7L Mercedes diesel powered Jeep Grand Cherokee, imported back from Europe.

I use 15w40 (same as goes into my DP engine). No issues starting the genny in January here in Canada.

5-40 would work just fine in the generator. I've been running it in my standby diesel generator for years. In my motorhome, Onan gas genny I just run plain old dino 10-30. The generator never gets started in the fall and winter months.

That is the recommendation of Cummins/Onan.
